Questions about '22

I'm too old to learn new tricks, so the new surveyor is of no interest to me. It looks way too complicated and real life issues has my head in a tiolet swirl right now anyway.
but I am interested in the small grid function. Is this ability a frame killer that needs to be used sparingly? Does it help at all with the tunnel portal hole issue,
or does the tunnel still punch the same size hole that remains unfillable?
Any other reasons to make the jump? BTW, I also don't have any desire for a ongoing subscription other then a FCT

Thanks...coffee's hot and I sure need it!

HD Terrain handles tunnels poorly if that's what you are wondering with the usual holes requiring patching. The issue is caused by the dig-hole assets still being 10 m grid size and HD terrain being much finer.

Being a much smaller grid scale, I think 5x the size, this is definitely a system resource hog and can have a performance impact on older systems.

Trainz-Plus offers a lot of other features including HD-terrain if you are interested in Trainz Living Railroad, and other things such as all the DLC if you have the Gold version. As a long-time Trainzer, you'll receive a discount on your subscription.

The smaller grids won't make any difference to a dig hole. The dig hole is an asset that is 10 x 10. It is not available in none subscription versions for editing. The discount is for those with a lifetime FCT.

Surveyor 2.0 is a long and steep learning curve from the original Surveyor Classic but, in my opinion, is worth it for those who have a serious interest in route creation.

HD Terrain, available only in Trainz Plus which requires an annual or monthly subscription, will allow you to use a brush size down to 12cm (0.12m) in size for both ground terrain and ground texture painting. It gives you 1600x the detail found in 10m terrain but with a significant increase in file size (about 5x bigger). HD should not be used in the same route with the current 10m and 5m terrain options found in TRS22 and earlier versions. If you are using HD Terrain then the entire route should be in HD.

HD is not a frame rate killer as far as I have noticed.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll just stay in '19. I just don't see it would be worth the jump. I can't believe they haven't revised those 10m dig holes. I rarely use cab mode, so I just drop a black plane in the portal and forget it.
