Question: Trainz Railway Simulator 2006

You don't list the full specs, is it possible if you could list the full specs? Besides, ram is quite cheap these days.

Game needs:

  • 2.2GHz (or equivalent)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 64MB 3D Graphics Card (NVIDIA GeForce2 or equivalent)
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • 1024x768 display resolution
PC has:
  • 2.08 GHz
  • 512 MB RAM
  • *Don't know the Graphics Card*
  • Windows XP Service Pack 3
  • *Don't know the display resolution*
So you see, I cant play it.

Guys,

I just checked the MINIMUM specs for 2010 and it requires a 3.4 gig :hehe: processer as a minimum requirement. I have a 2.8 gig. No way am I runnung that puppy until I get a new machine.

LouP

I think you'll find that that's a '3.4 GHz Pentium D or better'.

Unfortunately, CPU speeds aren't a 'linear number' that can simply be compared using the mathematical < and > operators.

The Pentium D was the last of the Pentium IV lineage. The Pentium IV, and D, had an excessively long pipeline, which means that clock for clock they are incredibly ineffecient compared to the earlier Pentium 3 and Semprons/Athlons, and the later Pentium M and Core family.

In fact, when the Pentium IV came out, the 1.8Ghz was considered roughly equivalent to about a 700MHz Pentium 3 in most tasks.

'3.4GHz Pentium D or better' actually includes a VAST array of processors that are slower than 3.4GHz, from Sempron/Athlons to Pentium Ms and Core [1 or 2] Duo/Core 2 Quad/i3/i5/i7 etc.

A ~2.0GHz Pentium M or Core (1, 2, i3, i5, i7, whatever) based laptop should theoretically be around the right area for the minimum spec.

The biggest problem with a laptop is likely to be that so many have onboard intel based graphics, which do NOT support all of the graphical features required for TS2010 (notably, they lack vertex and pixel shaders - blame intel for this, not Auran, these are 10 year old features that intel refused to support until this year)

On your keyboard, press the windows key and r at the same time.
THEN, type "DXDIAG" and take 2 screenshots similar to the following. Upload them to www.imageshack.us and then copy and paste the urls marked "forum code" or similar when replying to my message. (hint, use ctrl + printscreen as it takes a screenshot of that window and paste it into paint, save to jpg before uploading.)

It should look something like this:

2009 does work on XP, however, if your problem is intergrated graphics cards of the intel variant, it may not work properly. You need to give us details of your system.

I wouldn't recommend TRS2006 as it is, as support will end in 3 months time. If price is an issue, I recommend TC3 as it is based on pretty much the same base as TRS2006, with some updates and works on most hardware 06 works on. I think there are a few exceptions, but I haven't encountered many yet.

What do you mean "Support will end in 3 months time"?

All support and I believe downloads for TRS2006 and below (unless you pay for a FCT for downloads), will cease to exist after September 2010. Its been well documented. However, if you get a copy of TRS2006 and TC1&2 or TC3 as well, support will continue until next year. (TC doesn't come with the same content as TRS2006 does, or the default content, but you can import the default content easily.)
