Question from a new user

I was under the impression that they game would have many more engine choices. For instance there are no KCS, CSX, NS, BNSF etc. Also there arent too many rolling stock choices like autoracks, or intermodals cars, tank cars, piggyback cars etc. I have Trainz Simulator MAC. Am I missing something??

Am I missing something??

The Download Station, Content Manager, and lots of both freeware and payware out there on other sites.. Have you tried doing a SEARCH, both here on the Forum and a Google Search with Trainz and perhaps the locomotive you're looking for?

Yes, Jen, I believe you are missing about 250,000 items from the "Download Station", aka: DLS

Using Content Manager, you can browse the DLS, select, and download quite a good many of each of the items you listed.

DLS access is included with your purchase, and registration of your product, but speed is not guaranteed, and you are limited to 100Mb per 24 hour period.
-a "First Class Ticket" (aka FCT), can be purchased, to allow unlimited downloads, and higher speed access, if you find that you want to download a bunch of stuff after browsing around.

Not a Mac user but does it have the same default favourites only issue that 2010 has that needs un-selecting?

When I try to download anything in my download cart from the download station, Safari says it can't open specified address because OSX doesn't recognize internet address starting with trainz. Is there a MAC user that can give me advice?

I'm afraid you will not be able to use the Download Cart feature or any Download (Helper)/Download Pack links. You will need to use the Trainz Mac Content Manager, although I wouldn't at the moment as there are server problems at the moment.

Have a look at jointed rail and rrmods, both have decent assets.
When the dls is back check assets by n8phu.

At this point it is better that I explain to you, that this time of the season all the N3V crew take a ten day holiday break and it is not unusual for the server to crash, we all have learnt to more or less expect it, some times one of the team looks in on it and fixes it, but don't bank on it. They'll probably be back for Monday.

Thanks I will check it out. Well MACS are great for many things, but gaming is NOT one of those things! I am new to computer gaming, so this just complicates my learning curve even more.

I used a Mac for many years before I retired as a Senior Graphic Artist for a company. They are superior to PC's in my opinion. But for gaming I use a PC.

I clicked in Manage Content as Trainz opened. Can you explain to me what to do from that point? I tried dragging the files from the download station (as was suggested in an older thread) but the moment I tried, Trainz "unexpectedly quit."

I could explain the process, but being a PC user, I don't think the same Right-click/Left-click items apply.

At this point, I'd suggest using the MAC specific sub-forum (main Forum page, scroll down to the 4th subset, and there is a listing of each Trainz version..MAC is high up on the list), there, you will be able to get MAC specific answers, but may need a little more patience than usual, as there are simply fewer MAC users.

Go ahead and explain it. Macs can be set to use left and right click on the mouse, though if this isn't set, holding the Command key and clicking is the other method and is equal to a right-click. Known as Command-clicking. :)

Well, ok then.

When in Content Manager (aka CM), and you see the item you wish to download in the right pane, (for PC) you Right-Click to open a sub-menu, then select the desired operation by left-clicking on it,

...so in this case, you would left-click "Download", which should then place the item in the "download helper" pane, (for PC the upper left Pane).

Depending on how you have settings set, it should start automatically, but if it does not, then there are two radio buttons in the "download helper" pane, "Start" and "clear"...click on "start".

Edit: it appears Photobucket will not cooperate...sorry if you can not see the screen shot.

You can also drag the item from the list into the box top left. When you have placed all the assets you want in that box, you may need to scroll that box to see the download button.
