question for uk model trains

I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but it may be worth signing up to the Hornby forum on their website. They should be able to help you.

Peco OO track as used by many UK modellers is actually HO scale with regards to the sleeper spacing, and their points ('turnouts') are 'universal' so should accept any US HO models with current wheel standards. In the 'good' old days, manufacturers used their own wheel standards which differed from each other - some were at the time described as not so much 'coarse' but definitely 'obscene'. Still, it was all we had at the time and some other track manufacturers made universal track, and points (turnouts) which had moving wing rails so that there was no gap at the common crossing ('frog'). I used to make my own version using finer rail soldered to gapped copper-clad sleepers ('ties').

As for power, 12volts are 12 volts but of course the amperage needs to be adequate too.

Talking of the past, I still have my model of the LNER B12 brought out in black by Triang (as they were then) in the mid 1960s which I carefully stripped of all its paint to repaint it LNER apple green with LNER number. Iit took me a very long time - only to find that Triang issued a green version the week after I finished!

Sorry about the reminiscing - but some UK modellers might be interested in the ramblings of one of the more ancient!
