Question for 8800GTX Graphics Card Users

I still have the original 97.94 driver for my 8800GTX graphics card in my 2 1/2 year old Windows XP computer.
If you're using the same card, which driver are you using?

I had that card up until a month ago. I can't tell you the best driver, however, one big caution: I once upgraded the driver to the latest (this was about 3 months ago) and I lost the Nvidia Control Panel in the process. I searched around on the internet and found that that was indeed a known problem with the driver upgrade.

Whether Nvidia has corrected that problem, I have no idea, but I would urge you to read some of the driver forums.

Thanks for the reply.
Problems I've read about on the NVIDIA forum with upgrading drivers is one of the reasons I've never tried it.

190.62 for me, a stable driver in my system. If your 97.94 works fine - no reason to change. As I recall, beyond a certain build, I lost the control-panel and had to DL the Ntune utility to get the panel back.

I'm using version 196.21 and it comes with the NVidia Control Panel. I remember when the disappearing control panel happened. They had a seperate download to fix that.

The new System utilities lets you change the GPU clock and cooling settings. Since I have an NVidia-motherboard chipset, I can also adjust my CPU and system clock and cooling settings. I don't change th buss speeds, but do increase the cooling particularly in the summer months when it gets really hot where I am.

With the new CP, you can also setup a rule so that the cooling can change depending upon which program is run. When I use Trainz, for example I set the cooling to be higher and reset it back to normal when the program exits.
