question: are speedtrees required in 2010ee?

If I build my own route, can I choose not to use speedtrees, or to mix/match tree types? Also, can I use the replace asset tool to eliminate speedtrees from existing routes? Thanks.

You can use other tree types. Some 3rd party trees will show up as obsolete though and be replaced by SpeedTree trees. (That's more of an issue with importing a TS2009 or older route though, not something you'd need to worry about when creating a route. Old routes may actually have a mix of SpeedTree trees and older trees for this reason.)

Note that you may need to switch to compatibility mode, at least one of the old methods used for making trees looks really bad in native mode.

If your looking for great trees, other than speed tree, you could always try JVC trees, they are included in Trainz 2010, other than that for other trees you can try here, most of these trees are low poly, and they all free...

These trees were built for MSTS, but they work perfectly in trainz 2009/ trainz 2010 without errors.

Hope this helps

Thanks guys; that's exactly what I wanted to know. So then, with careful route building, I could probably run 2010 on an older computer.
