question about the "world" directory

i downloaded a couple of trestle packs but they are not in cdp format, i just need to extract the "world" directory, but where should that directory be place? under the ts12 directory? how does a route know that the missing dependency is is now there? im still quite green at this stuff.

I am not a TS12 user but this may be a file format issue. What form are the downloads in? Are the RAR or ZIP files for instance? If they are then unzip them and you should find a CDP file within. Extract the cdp to a location from where you can find it again and then use Content MAnager's import CDP option to install them into the game

If they are RAR format, you don't need the RAR extractor. You can use 7zip, which will handle both ZIP and RAR formats easily.

they are in .zip format with no cdp files. just the directory structure.

Those packs were developed for UTC and TRS2004, old versions of Trainz whose custom content was contained inside a "World" folder. You need to extract those ZIP files to a folder, then, in Content Manager, choose File -> Import Content and point it to the folder with the extracted content.
