Question about finding routes and sessions online or on the DLS.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and really getting into the actual operation of running session of on Trainz. I currently have Trainz 19 premium and was looking for some suggestions on where to find some good routes with sessions to play while I am stuck home during this crazy time. I have a the model railroads add on and a few other payware routes but I was hoping to find some more for free on the DLS or somewhere else on the internet.

If I had a pick I would love something with Steam, anything from the north East/ New England area of the united states or anything based on a tourist operation.

If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations that they can share would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

Finding routes that are "good" is difficult. What some find terrific is another one's trash, or however they say that. With that said, there are a few that come to mind.

New England Coastal. This fits right into your scheme of things being all things New England. It's a mash up of George Fisher's routes by MSGSapper. There are plenty of online industries and plenty of operation potential. I don't recall if there are any sessions made for it, but that doesn't preclude you from making your own. Setting things up isn't terribly difficult as you should know based on your previous Trainz programs listed on your timeline.

For non-New England routes, there is Dave Snow's (davesnow) Cotton Belt. This is a new for TRS2019 route and extremely detailed with both passenger and freight operations with the opportunity for running long distance passenger and very long mainline freights.

Dave recently uploaded another route, albeit, much smaller is in a similar vein as his Cotton Belt route. Sadly I can't remember the name offhand, and I'm not at my Trainzing computer to check. It's named something like Almeda Valley, or Alda Valley. Search for Routes and davesnow on the DLS.

Then finally there are many, many other model railroad routes by Phil Skene (philskene). These are various themed steam and diesel operations with many, many accompanying sessions. His steam routes, both narrow gauge and standard gauge are gorgeous and make use of the potential afforded to us by TRS2019.

I hope this helps some. I know it's not all New England. Being a New Englander myself, I too would love to see more routes in this area as well.

Thank you for the tips. I will defiantly look into these users. To possibly help explain my poor wording earlier. I know that "good" can be different for everyone. What i should have said is popular or best voted by others. I was just looking for some verity as well because there is a lot of diesel and industrial switching built in. Was hoping for something a little layed back or local runs. something to due in an hour or so.

Regardless thank you again for the leads. Ill hop over to the DLS and check it out

I see that my name has been mentioned above. I generally do a reasonably detailed write up of my routes, layouts and sessions in these Forums. The easiest way to find them is to use the "Advanced Search" function, thus:

"Was hoping for something a little layed back or local runs. something to due in an hour or so."

Hmm. "Laid" perhaps. And maybe "do"? One that might suit (suite) is "Rivercide":

Hello,
Another option is the Content Manager found in game. From the opening panel click "Manage Content." First thing to do is to show all columns. Click the column header and add all the available columns. Then, click the triangle next to "Filter" and you will get your filter dropdown. Here, you can make and save your own filters. For example:
- Where "Installed" says True click on True and set it to FALSE
- Click the "+" circle on the right of the filter.
- Change "Asset Kuid" to "Category" and set the category to Route
- Now click on Upload Date in the header to sort by upload date. You may have to click it again to get latest to older.

You should not be viewing routes only from newest to older.

Now, to see philskene only routes let's add another filter item. On the second filter item (Category) click the "+" icon on right and set the 3rd filer to "Author" and enter "philskene". Phil's wonderful routes should now show. Click the "Upload Date" column header again (or twice) to show newest to oldest again. Once you have downloaded and installed Phil's route(s) the info panel has a link to his info page here on the forums. Phil is great at providing what you need to know.

Content Manager if very powerful but it takes some "thought" in setting it up. If you learn to use the "And" "And Not" and "or" operators you can do some powerful searches like finding assets not used by currently installed routes, sessions, etc.

I have several routes on the Download Station that you might find interesting. Mostly Western Maryland and B&O. There are also 2 Model Railroad type routes. One is the the Gorre & Daphetid, a trainz replica of John Allen's famous model railroad formerly located in Monterey CA, and the other is the Murrysville & Western, a replica of a model railroad I built in my basement over a 20 year period. In addition, You'll find the San Diego and Arizona Eastern, and the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad, routes I recently uploaded to the DLS. All of my routes are DLS content only, so you won't have to look for missing kuids. Search the DLS for jrfolco, or my kuid number 73500.
