Pulling out

Due to some recent events I've decided that I am going to pull out of the trainz forum community. I will occasionally pop in here and read up on what people are doing. And ask for help if needed. I'm planning on staying active in the IRC chat room however. Its seeming harder and harder to do anything that doesn't anger a lot of people here any more. It seems that now if I want to post a picture I have to get on OK to do so from every content creator that has an object in view of said pic. It also seems that reskining (which is what I do) is not appreciated any more. In no means will I stop reskining stuff but NONE of it will be released. I also am planing on removing my stuff from PCC so if you want it get it now (the P42 isn't mine so it will stay). It was great knowing you all and I hope to see some of you in #trainz.

Edit: I should mention this means I'll have to figure out what to do with myself... Trainz forum was a big part of my life. Oh well; I guess this gives me more time to earn some money.

Peter,

Wishing you all the best with whatever you decide that works best for you.

Regards,
Ron

:) :) :) Just for laughs....

OH NO..... don't go, please stay.:hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

You shouldn't worry about the Trainz community. There is no Trainz community or I should say very little of it. I've learned this the hard way.
As I stated to Mcguirel in his rant post, do what makes you happy. It's your hobby and don't worry so much about what others think. I had to remind myself of all this yesterday. I spent the last three day making streetlights, ask for ideas and thoughts from other people...I got very little. I posted new screenshot of my layout, no post. I don't think anybody even looked at them. I'll admit it, I was pissed at first. I then realized that I'm doing what makes me happy and enjoying the Trainz program.
In general, people here have been getting snooter over the years here. They break off into the own little groups and start thier web sites and figure they can do no wrong. This was a very different place back when Trainz all started.

I think with simulators it is a case of just making what interests you. Whether others are interested or not at least they have had the opportunity to reply constructively to posts. However as one of the early pioneers of maritime Trainz starting from version 1, I became well aware of the numerous adverse, childish, comments, etc. However Trainz now has no interest for me as probably becoming unusable with giant size patches and 6 meg or so textures...as will remain on dial up. I had a look at your site and the laurel line and notice you are using Blender. Sill only know the basics myself but been been making content with it for about 7 years now. I Started making content and sceneries with the Blender Game Engine and found by using a script I can now make realistic srtm2 terrain data mesh up to about 15 miles, plus animated boats, extensive docks, etc...set in c1785. The next edition of Blender should be interesting. Barry

yes, by all means do what makes you happy first. the quickest way to fail is to try and please people. people tend to think you owe them something. thats exactly why i read here more often than i post.

btw i like your streetlights a lot MrScott.

I find myself becoming too much involved with this or that web community, and have to do a "reality check" to bring it back into the perspective it belongs in.
I have been happy with this forum, but I have been very active in some others (not Trainz related) and have to say that people can get a lot too serious about things.

I agree with the consensus on doing what makes you happy. You purchased Trainz for your enjoyment, not for the enjoyment by the "community".

It's always good to remember that you have lots of friends here

Take care

FW

It's always too easy to let a few comments from a few distract us from why we're here in the first place. If I could figure out a way to please everyone all of the time, I'd probably be president. The fact is that we can't and don't even try. Hopefully, you're here because you enjoy it. When it's not enjoyable anymore, it's probably time to take a sabatical and re-evaluate; otherwise, follow a little friendly advice and let the negatives just fly past into the darkness. Most of them come out of nowhere and disappear into nowhere.
Mike

I should reiliterate since I've had a number of email & PMs about it. I am not leaving the community just the forums here. And I have decided to pull out of the content creation front. You can still find me in the IRC chat room; and I will still be making stuff. But since it is now become very hard for me to release any reskins I've made, I'm, only reskining and making stuff for myself. I might give a route out to a friend or something but thats all.

As is being said by most here; trying to release stuff is no longer fun for me; nor is trying to post things I've done here.

I plan on stopping into the Trainz Commuter Rail more than I have been so you might be able to spot me there. I might even post a screenie of something I'm working on there. But as my sig says DON'T expect it to be released.

Hmm I think thats all I needed to say...

Edit: Oh yes 1 other thing that was brought up. My desicion to pull out has been a long time coming. It wasn't just an over night desicion due to one member. The reasoning is really due to a number of members (you may or may not know who you are; in all likelyhood you don't). Although I will admit I picked this time because of some events that have happened to me in the community lately. (I know I'm trying to be specific about some stuff and vague about others)

Hi Peter,

I can understand your reasons apart from some of the recent ones your hinting at. I remember many years ago before the "Great Forum Crash" the forum was a lot different to what it is now. While I can think of many reasons for the "attitude" change in the forum I am not sure which one would be the worse.

Good luck with anything you do in the future and hope to see you dropping in from time to time.

Craig
:):):)

My bloody Monkey seems to have gone on strike for more bananas, fat chance :hehe: . I am not that rich :hehe: . Hopefully we can negotiate some form of agreement that will include yearly increases based on his performance and weight :hehe:

EDIT: My monkey and I have finally come to an agreement/understanding on his future with my posts :hehe:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - do with Trainz what makes you happy and forget everyone else.

As for pleasing others... how many folks want to run coal trains behind camelback 2-6-0's and 2-8-0's in eastern Pennsylvania... let's see a show of hands. See? Just me. Yet I am building the Susquehanna all the way to Wilkes-Barre anyway. I never asked for permission or for anyone to let me know they were interested. I like Susie-Q and I realized that I can use Trainz as a time machine. There's even a DeLorean available, though it may lack the Flux Capacitor. Eventually, I will make dinosaurs and trilobites for Trainz just because it's possible.

Most of us have precious little time to check the forum in any case, so picking and choosing what thread to check on and how to respond constructively can be a challenge. Heck, I haven't even started Trainz in about a week now. I only got in here today to check out the latest on the Laurel Line and to look for responses to my thread about cab lettering Ben Neal's USRA Light Mike.

I'm sorry to see you go, but I echo Scott; there hasn't been much of a community in this forum in a long, long time.

Of course there is a Trainz community....you're part of it. It doesn't matter whether you like it or not, if you hang here, you're part of it. Real communities have problems....aren't perfect...have people you like and don't like. You're confusing a community with shangri-la....no such place. How many times does someone post, "Can't we all just get along?" or "Can't we agree to disagree?"....no...we can't. Fact of life. And, as I said before, remembering the good old days of this forum is just a case of selective memory....

When people are forced away by other people actions and reactions, there is no community. There seems to be an ever increasing posts of "I quit" or "I'm leaving" usually it's because of someone else that can play nice.

That's good....seeseeme without Monkey would be like M without the other M...

Trainz is multi facit simulator.
Some people like creating, others just like running trains, while others want to .... well the list is endless.

Do your own thing, as after all it is your hobby and your life to enjoy.

I'm sorry to hear that you are leaving this forum PerRock,

I regard everyone on here as family, and in the past you have helped me out many times with great advice, it's sad to say that the forum loses another trainz great, good luck with whatever you decide to do, I just hope you come back one day soon.

Joe Airtime

I'm sorry but the yardmaster cannot let you leave on schedule, there are three trains ahead of you and the current one has problems with its consist.:p

Haven't heard this, "cannot post a picture if you use my stuff," bit. Might have to take a public survey if true just to see who favors what.:o

*add in to StorkNest's post*
And there appears to be a pair of junctions which have rather ("in") conveniently jammed the wrong way.... ;)

Peter,
You've been a great asset to this community, you'll be missed.

I have enjoyed the knowledge you put in your posts, hard thing to find now.

May God be with you,
Woody
