Procedural Track Cross Overs

Think the problem is that for procedural junctions to work the track has to be physically joined, with a crossover there is no physical connection between the tracks other than one is placed over the other.

Would I guess need a different method to achieve realism.

Surely not beyond the ability of N3V's intrepid coder(s) though. The track laying system in DTG TS works along similar lines and can form diamond crossings which are integrated into the train protection database. MSTS of course used fixed track pieces to place diamonds, possibly a way forward for Trainz but they need to adapt to the spline type being connected and the code still needs to recognise and protect against conflicting movements.

Probably they have used different methods to achieve the creation of junctions, could I suppose possibly be issues involved in using the same method as xyz sim which I would guess they have probably looked at!

Need a separate procedure for Crossovers, maybe some special kind of track mark to signify a crossover layout that includes the check rails etc which could also maybe solve the signalling issues with some scripting. Haven't coded anything for years so no idea what's possible.

Meanwhile I'm using the crossing checkrails which are OKish appearance wise I suppose.

I'm thinking the late andi06 might have been able to come up with something you could use with protrack.....

I use the Path Rule (built into TRS19) for protecting train movements across diamond crossings. Once the path is set, signals on the crossed tracks will show "path ahead is unsignaled". Some trial & error needed, of course, but when set up it works well.

The Crossing Checkrails by norfolksouthern37 are still a really good accoutrement for dressing up procedural track crossover diamonds.
Thanks for the input on crossover protection, sharknose, tallyken, big_b, jcardana, et al.
Going to try them all out, including Interlocking Towers. Have so many of them to play with in this particular route.

jcardana mentioned above "Also the, ASB stuff. There are 2 items... the Trigger and Controller." These are by boat and available on the DLS. Search for "ASB" and author "boat". The components are supposed to do just that. I've downloaded the lot and installed them in TRS2019 but have not had time to try them out extensively. boat's demo route for these assets comes up with an error, but it is easily fixed in the config.txt. Just replace the value for the "region" tag from "Australia" to the kuid for that region: <kuid:-25:246>. boat cautions that this system may not work for all signals, but also states that they should work in TANE.

Thanks for the heads up Andrew. I will take a look at the that demo route as soon as I can.

ASB Crossover, (on the DLS) is really for stand alone diamond crossovers, multi track too if you like. It's not really suitable where junctions are involved like the screenshot above.

For that I came up with ASB Turnout. This system not only stops drive-throughs at the crossover but controls the points (turnouts) and signals too.

It is however Payware, (Non profit making but cheap, just to almost pay for my website and a Trainz thing or 2 if I'm lucky).

Both ASB's have not been fully tested in TRS19 yet but should be OK in 'Maximise Compatibility' mode. They will likely have issues if you run TRS19 in 'Stream Objects' mode.

I am planning to update both Crossover and Turnout to work in 'Steam Objects' mode in the near future. That once I have finished updating all of my ATLS assets for 'Stream Objects' mode.

Click the link below for more info on ASB Turnout.
