Problem with submiting new thread

I am not sure if this is the right place to write about it, but I can't find any other.

Few minutes ago I submitted a new thread. It took me few minutes to write it, correct content, spelling mistakes, add tags, etc. When I was happy with my work I clicked on the button "Submit New Thread", but nothing was submitted. Instead, there was a message saying I need to login. I was already login, or otherwise I would not be able to start a new thread. Option "You may post new threads" was listed in my Posting Permission. I guess after a certain amount time (what exactly?) I was auto logged out, however this function was not communicated back to my browser (Firefox 22.0, running on Windows XP 32 bit). It would be nice to know that my session expired and I need to re-login or I risk loosing the content I typed on. The Auto-Saved function helps and the frequency may be increased, but if you type even as slowly as myself, you could still lose much content, especially when you run text auto-correction, etc.

To continue I had to login again, which I did, but then my browser redirected me to a blank page. My thread was no longer there. I had to type in the forum address again and start navigating from the main page, opening new thread, etc. Then I could use auto-saved function, but there were still many things missing (tags are not auto-saved). Fortunately, before I clicked the submit button I used copy function in my browser.

This is really frustrating. How others can tolerate such sloppy performance?

1. Up top, where you log in, tick the check box for "keep me logged in"
2. Switch to Internet Explorer.

2. Switch to Internet Explorer.

Sure you got that right, mate?

This used to happen to me a lot and I suspect there was a timeout somewhere. So I got into the habit of copying my prose before submission just in case.

There is a timeout of approximately 10-15 minutes of inactivity, after which you have to login again in order to proceed.

Note that typing a post counts as inactivity to the forums as activity is classed as when it's loading pages etc.

Yes, that must be what caught me out before I decided to remain "logged in". I think it can be a problem if you are creating a detailed post, with picture links, etc. Plus, if you decide to review your unsent post looking for grammar, correctness, etc as the OP did then you can lose the lot. Therefore, I think its a good idea to copy the post contents just in case. :hehe:

Ticking this box does not change anything. I get automatically logged off.

2. Switch to Internet Explorer.
I thought that the days when programmers made their designs with a single browser on their mind are gone. If the same programming mentality is applied in Trainz then it is no wonder there are so many bugs in it.

Honestly, this forum is one of the worst I ever had chance to use.

In other words, present handling of content encourages printing garbage.

Need to keep cookies for the forum for stay logged in to work. The forum functions in exactly the same way as any other vBulletin forum I use. If staying logged in isn't working clear the cookies and then restart the browser and accept the cookies.

It appears you have the highly contagious disease "User Error".

As Clam mentions, the "Keep me Logged in" only works if you "accept cookies" (but it DOES work, I have NEVER been logged-out due to inactivity), and ALL vBulletin forums work the same way. Considering 85%, or more, of the active Forums on the inter-web are using Vbulletin software, I find it hard to believe that this one is the "worst" you've used...must be the WAY you are using it.
