Problem with Saving.

hi all,
Today i have encountered a problem.. first of all i have been playing around with the UMR layout anyways.. during which i decided i would take a quick drive to see if what i built worked, clicked on save in the menu bar and it proceeded to ask to overwrite previous content.. sure, so it saves and then loads quick drive and to my shock, everything i had done wasn't there, so i thought okay maybe i did it wrong so i spent the next hour playing around with the different ways of saving (autosave, save and save as) what i found is my layouts will all save but only to the point of what i had done yesterday and that was via autosave, so everything i do now will not save (and if it does no rolling stock etc remains). could there be a reason?

or am i missing something, i've done it 100's of times without issue but all of a sudden its being a pain. have not downloaded anything and the only warnings i'm getting via that small red dot in driver in the bottom right corner are to do with running numbers for the NSW Frieghtcorp 81 Class loco and NSW SRA 81 Class loco (any idea for the kuid to get the running numbers btw?), but i only have 4 of them on the route (when they appear lol)

Thanks Nathan.

Save game melt down!

This is an issue with Trainz software! I am working on one route and one session only. I have set auto-save for every 30 minutes. There is a problem with Auran software that will not allow you to continue save! It will, after a time give you one option only of saving your edit work as a completely new route or nothing at all? Thereafter it will dump all your saved settings, i.e consist data, driver data etc! Mickey Mouse, Heath Robinson Software, no other answer!
Yours Frustrated as well!:'(

Can I check which version of Trainz is affected (including build number)?

Also, if using Windows Vista or 7, make sure that Trainz is setup to run as an administrator.

Hi Shane! build 44653 for me!

Hi Shane, I've been modding since god knows when, but there is a real problem with saving games in surveyor mode! Hope you know how to sort it. Best Wishes Zapata935

Am I reading you correctly

Are you declaring to me that I am not allowed to edit anything on trainz unless I am connected to the Internet! Where all and sundry can view what I am doing! Am I reading your message right? Best Wishes Zapata935

Unfortunately, yes.

Due to some bizarre reason even I do not understand, N3V have made it a requirement that a user is connected to the Internet to overwrite an existing route/session. (I believe it is to avoid KUID clashes with content already on the Download Station)

My bugs thread may have more information on it.

Shane

There is nothing bizzare about revenue protection!

Thanks for your help Shane! This whole website is about accruing money from train nuts! I am actually someone who can live without it! I thank you for your guidance and help, I find it sad that people on this website are so exploited!

Do a save as and overwrite the route with the same name. I've used TS2009 offline and had no problem.

Regarding making money? How does Auran profit from you just being connected to the internet? This is like a blaming Windows Vista, which we can blame for a lot of Windows problems when it was the OS, for letting in thieves to steal our bear from the fridge, and eat our hamburgers off the grill. :)

Well there's the problem John!

Thats exactly what we are not able to do John, is overwrite! This is the whole problem! If as Shane explained, you are not connected to the internet, you lose the overwrite, save function. I have never come across game software that is editable before, where you are required to be plugged in to the internet! I suspect that the reason for this is people pay for stuff on Planet Auran, create a beautiful route and upload it to the Download Station. Planet Auran does not want free downloaders having that paid for content floating out the back door without a dime or buck going to them! I hope you understand the problem better now. The real issue is whilst you are working away editing, Planet Auran can rake thro your database making sure that you have no un-paid for content. I hope you are starting to get the picture.

If you read this thread thro from the the start John! Thats exactly what what we are not able to do is overwrite! This is what we are talking about!
Anyway, I would not like to steal any be-ar from your fridge anyway! I suggest you read stuff like 1984 and big brother before you dote yourself on sites like this! Best Wishes Zapata935

I did read the beginning yesterday, but forgot what I read, sorry. There's too much going on and I'm a bit fried. I'm still at work right now reformatting two laptops and 6 desktops for deployment on Monday, so my focus is on something else.

What do you mean dote myself on sites like this? I've been here since 2004, and really before as a lurker before TRS2004 came out!

Anyway... can you create a new route with a different name? The save issues I know became a problem when the routes became too big. I used to use the save as, keep the same name, and had no problem.

This definitely is a bug, and I think the old Autosave was trying to save to the same file, therefore caused a file access lock. This issue appears to have been fixed in TS2010 and up. Perhaps SP4, which I didn't get reintroduced the bug again. I've seen this before with other programs where one thing gets fixed with an SP, but comes back when a new SP is issued.

Oh, you can steal as much bear as you want from my fridge, anytime! :D
