Problem with GT 520 graphics card

I replaced my graphics card today with a Geforce GT 520.
In Trainz items appear in wierd colours.
Driver is the latest, version 280.26.
From previous posts Disable Hardware TL ticked.
Using both OpenGl and DirectX makes no difference.

Video card problem

Did you use the drivers that came with the card or did you download the latest driver from the nVidia website?

I downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia.
A strange problem is that only the items loaded after the new card was inserted seem affected.
The blown card was a 8400gs

I seem to have sorted the problem out.

Using options Configure Trainz:

Antialias mode - unticked
Disable Hardware -TL - unticked

Using CMP Miscellaneous Settings:

Enable hardware accelerated texture compression - unticked

Reopen assets (todays) and recommit.

Do not disable hardware TL that was bad information and will result in poor performance, only need to disable hardware Compression to solve that problem, I'd put the Antialiasing back on as well or you will get poor graphics.

The Hardware TL switch was there for old legacy cards that don't have the modern hardware support.

Some people are confusing Hardware TL with the Hardware Compression problem and giving the wrong fix out....................

The GT 430 is probably a better card for most games. Slightly more expensive, but I am getting 30/50 FPS with it for most routes in 2010. It is easy on the PS too drawing about 30W under load.

I hate doing this when someone has just bought a new card........ however
The 520 is only a low end 64 bit card with performance somewhere around a 220 and a higher current requirement, you really need at least a 128 bit card preferably 256 or higher with DDR5 quite a few use DDR3 where others using the same chipset use DDR5.

Really people need to check reviews from hardware sites that run comparisons before forking out for a card in the latest series and finding out that some are no better than much older cards.

I'm running TS12 using a 460 GTX with 1 gig of GDDR5. It runs every route like butter. About $170 at newegg.com.

William

Edit: Just to address the OP. The issue is a driver problem with the way TS12 compresses the graphics used by downloaded assets when you commit a new asset. Hence the need to open for edit the problem asset and then commit it again after turning off "hardware accelerated texture compression" inside CM under settings> Miscellaneous. This does not effect gameplay, it just makes CM take a little longer to install downloaded assets.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the extra $100, two full height slots and an 800W PS.
