hi all
redone pc and reloaded everything
i can now get into driver and it works,
but

the problem now is that i cannot do any editing from cmp.
i was going to rename some of the files into my categories so that i can find things easier to place them in surveyor, but i cannot open them to do so.
i can push ctrl E and it shows as open but i cannot get into it to find the config file to fix the username to the way i want it to read

can sombody please tell me what the problem might be.

i tried a search but came up with nothing

thanks
ron

Hi Ron,

Are you running Vista?

If you are, make sure you run Trainz and CMP as an Administrator. This will give you permissions to open the folders if this is your problem.

Assuming you meant to type Ctrl+Shift+E and not ctrl E have you tried:
Right click the kuid and select Edit - Edit in Explorer or
Right click the kuid and select Edit - Open for Edit and then right click Windows Start and select Explorer.
The kuid should be in the edit folder.

Nothing? It should at least open explorer for you and then you browse to the edit folder.
Is Explorer actually working? the file manager part that is? can you start it and browse files anywhere?

hi
i can use explorer to go through my folders and files,
but nothing with cmp

everything is newly installed with everything

thanks

Are you saying that after using CMP to select Edit - Open for Edit and then go to Windows Explorer and look at the TRS2006\edit folder and nothing is there? What I'm trying to establish is does or does not CMP Open for Edit command extract the kuid from the database, expand it and place it in the edit folder.

Bob

hi bob

i never tried that way before

yes, when i find the 2006 folder and look in the edit folder the file is in there.

at least now i have a way to get into the config file

thanks mate

Ron,

When you reinstalled, did you reinstall Trainz as well, or did you just reinstall windows and copy the Auran folder back to your hard drive?

Thanks you for the information on your OS that was very useful in troubleshooting your problem although it hasn't solved it yet.

I know this should be obvious.......... but just in case, when you used edit in explorer from CM2 and you have it maximised, Explorer isn't not opening behind CM2 is it?

Ron,

Might be worth going to the Microsoft Updates site and checking if you have the latest version of the ".Net Framework". I'm pretty sure CM uses this.

Long shot but it should do no harm......

Hmm, this is strange. I have this sometimes using ctrl-shift-c for opening the config editor, but never with ctrl-shift-e. There's a thick however to force the opening of the config editor, maybe this works with the explorer as well. After you have pressed ctrl-shift-e, and nothing happens, try holding down the (left)ctrl key and click with the left mouse button on the item you selected before. This works for the config editor, so maybe it does too for the explorer.

hi itareus
i dl their latest version 3.5

does nothing bar open it for edit in cmp

ctrl-shift-c opens ccp

misterchugg,

Just to let you know, I think the 3.1 reference may be referring to Windows Installer (which you can get from this link and choosing the top option in the results list that appears then follow the instructions that appear. (you may need to follow windows validation process if it requires it)

If this does not work, please let us know.
