Problem Coupling to Buried Boxcar?

I have a boxcar in the middle of a consist. AI decouples a string of cars ahead of it and puts them on a siding. Then I want to couple to the target boxcar. However, since it was buried in a consist at the beginning of the instruction it does not appear on the list of cars eligible for coupling?? Is there a way to couple to it if not on the list of cars eligible for coupling?

Don't use AI ...Real RR's don't have AI ... Why should Trainz have AI ?
Drive in DCC, or CAB, mode

How can you couple to a car in the middle of a consist anyway ?

He means the car WAS in the middle of the consist, but after AI decoupled one side of the train from said car, the car does not NOW show up in the "couple to" command list.
As for the OP's question, I've no answer. I tried to figure this out back when I used AI, but now I just do everything on my own, as it's actually easier.

That doesn't sound right.

If a boxcar has been moved to the end of a consist at some subsequent time, then the car should be eligible for coupling. To find out the car name, ctrl-right click on the car and view details. The name will be there... Then choose the couple command and pick at car from the list.

Usually when I interchange cars or do yard work, I use a combination of human and AI control. This is sort of like being the brakeman on the ground while the AI driver is the engineer.

If you are going to use this task many times I would suggest putting a TM on the track ahead of the wagon but before the next junction. Name it and use couple at TM command. This command does not need to know the wagon as it will read it when activated in the drivers commands list. It will read the nearest piece of rolling stock on the track it sits on.

I have just discovered a new, to me, driver command from http://cyritrainz.ru/ is called "k cmd AutoCouple" <kuid:579234:518> and it does not require any additional driver commands. When displayed in the Command list it will be in Russian.
Requirements:
1. loco/train most be pointed in the direction of vehicle to be coupled
2. a path must be manually set to the vehicle, throw the appropriate turnouts.
3. most important, the speed must be set either manually or via a speed sign.

I think the problem here is that the OP is trying to set up AI in Surveyor to couple to a boxcar that starts the session in the middle of a train.

If this is the case then the solution is to temporarily decouple one end of the boxcar from the train in Surveyor, then add it to the driver commands, then re-couple it. (Usually a case of clicking on the Move tool then on one end of the decoupled consist)

It worked! I used Couple at Trackmark. The task puled a boxcar from the middle of a consist and delivered it to a warehouse. Put the consist back together and send it on its way. Using the Portland Rigby yard in the Maine Central Route.

I am no expert but my impression is that there are multiple activities going on concurrently. Only AI can do this unless you have multiplayer. What I like is to watch is one, or more yard activities breaking down a train and creating a new one (or two). In my case above you might imagine that a boxcar, in the middle of a consist, was there in error and had to be pulled and placed in the correct consist.
