Hi.

What I find really strange is the fact Trainz 2009 is in the beta testing phase as it was annonced to be out in november ???? Before beta testing is completed and Trainz go gold, we will for sure not see it before christmas ??? What's your thoughts...

Andre.

I think it will be out in November :)

One of the main reasons we decided on two Editions for 2009 was so that we could get World Builder out this year and the more content-oriented Engineers Edition would take longer and come out next year.

Hmmm Dru you think? It seems Auran has moved here to San Francisco if they seek shaky ground, oh and welcome back. :)

Cheers

This is the first time I've heard that the World Builder version would have less content than the Engineers Edition. Up until now I was under the impression that the only difference was that the Engineers Edition simply would not include the Surveyor module.

I thought that by buying the World Builder version, I would get everything. So now I find that I must buy both of them to get everything. The plot thickens.

Hello

Trainz™ Simulator 2009 World Builder Edition (TS2009) is the core program designed primarily for content creators and route builders and Trainz™ Simulator 2009 Engineers Edition (TEE) which is designed more for those who enjoy driving and controlling trains. Both editions will be totally compatible so they will operate seamlessly when both are installed.

Read more about both editions here:

Trainz Simulator 2009 World Builder Edition: http://www.auran.com/TS2009/wb.php

Trainz Simulator 2009 Engineers Edition: http://www.auran.com/TS2009/en.php

Ahsan:)

I'm sorry it wasn't clear to you. Can I ask why you thought you would need to wait several months for something that simply had Surveyor removed and no new content?

Trainz is about two main things - creating content and using that content in a variety of ways. Some people prefer making stuff (models, textures routes, scripts, sessions) and others prefer running railroads (driving, operating, interating with industry etc). By splitting Train into two parts you can choose which part you prefer.

Sure you can choose both parts as well but a lot of time, money and effort goes in to each edition and without a reasonable return on that investment, no future releases will be made. So really there's a choice for people to stick with their current edition or support Auran to make bigger and better versions for years to come.

Tony

All of this is and was well understood except for two things:

I was unaware that there would be two different release dates, and
I was unaware that there would be a difference in content.

I was simply under the impression that a number of users felt that they had no need or desire for the Surveyor module's capabilities. I was not trying to start a hissing match.

Let's see if I understand any of this. Some will buy the Engineers edition when it comes out next year but not the World Builder edition. Others will buy both. None will buy only the World Builder edition unless they don't understand what they are getting?

I can see were some people could get them mixed up or not totally understand the difference. I understand the difference but not everyone has the same comprehension abilities.

I wouldn't get too plural there, I will probably be only getting the World Builder Edition. It describes exactly what I normally do; build worlds, my worlds. I have no interest in just getting on a train someone else made. Creation is the name of the game as far as I'm concerned and that is what this new version promises.

What Martin said. Also I was never was too impressed by the supplied content and got most from the DLS with stuff made by this fantastic community. Only the world builder edition for me too.

I can see problems however, for people who are building routes with the content of the engineers edition. IMHO this is the first time that having a particulair version of Trainz does not garantuee you can load a route with default content as intended. So what will happen: Will the extra content engineers edition end up on the DLS eventually of will it be content you can't get at without buying the driver module twice (essentially)?

L56 Out...

TEE will have more content and more Driver-specific features. We'll be releasing more detailed information this week.

Tony

Tony, What ever you get paid, it's not enough.

WBE is in function very much like TRS04 and TRS06 but with tons of new features and improvements. It includes tons and tons of assets and routes from earlier editions. What it doesn't have is a lot of new assets built to the TS2009 standard. So what do you do with it? Answer is everything you do with TRS04 or TRS06 plus you can build routes that take advantage of the much improved graphics. Believe me once you use a displacement map as a terrain shaping brush on a 5 m grid you won't go back. At the moment, it looks like WBE will only be available direct from Auran.

TEE is Trainz Driver on steriods. It will showcase the incredible graphic improvements with new routes and assets built just for TS2009. It includes CM2 so you can download from the DLS or add content from third party sites. Driver is being completely reworked to allow the placement of rolling stock from within Driver. Then you can add driver commands and save the session to share with others.

My sense is that most forum users will buy WBE and then maybe TEE. While most users new to Trainz will buy TEE and then some will buy WBE. Of course, I will buy both.

Looks like I will be buying both as well. However it seems to me that it would have been better, simpler, clearer, etc. if there were only one version of the program code, i.e. the World Builder version, followed by a series of content only packages.

At any rate, I will buy both as I want all offical Auran assets, that way any routes I build should always work. Free assets from the DLS are nice and all, but they come with zero guarantees of bug fixes or availability, etc.
