Powder River Basin (fictional) V1.1 Multiplayer

ProRailz...
Great news for all TS12 SP1 + hotfixes 1 & 2 who enjoy multiplayer sessions! My route and session are now on DLS and the session works even with it uploaded with build 3.7 (tested by GN1996 and myself). I plan to be hosting when I can and maybe start a new group on forums if anyone else is interested. The route, Powder River Basin (fictional) V1.1 WINTER, is 75-80 miles long with interactive industries set up along the line. All my sessions are open to the public and anyone is welcome to join. Anyone who may be interested in a new group being formed, please comment or send me a PM.

It does imply something about the quality of the route if the author can't even be bothered to post 1 screenshot. Just saying.

That route looks pretty good! I may just download it. But if you ever think about doing a summer version, I have a few textures in mind that would really improve the look. :) Nice Job!

It is a nice route, though lacking in some areas. But it shows great potential. Once I clear up my plate, I might throw in my $0.02 for possible prototypical operations.

I do have a summer version, but it is still a work in progress. For some more looks, visit my Youtube channel. Just search for my Youtube username jhuravitch.

Thanks Jib, help from you on making prototypical operations would be great to have.

Much agreed. One thing that really is bothering me are the turnouts. I will try to find the link for my turnout tutorial.

EDIT: Found the link. Now people have mentioned that the turnouts are just a smidge too short. Well I based this tutorial for short line operations. You can just easily scale each section of the turnout to make it better for operation.

Hi jhuravitch,

Your route looks very nice, and it's not very often a good winter route comes along. If I may suggest, perhaps consider swapping in some Speedtrees to eliminate the alpha issue? Since yours is an MP route I'd suggest mcguirel's trees on the DLS, they're pretty good.

Cheerio,
Nicholas

Thanks very much. For a first route, I'm happy with the way it turned out. The next version, V1.2 will add in most of the suggestions given to me. Trees and turnouts are a must fix in my own opinion. Along with that, I plan to add a HTML page that lists everything like locations of industries to consist orders, etc. Keep the input coming! Its very helpful!

Well I'll start looking into it. Depends on how much operation you want. If you've noticed, Ive tried to get some going back in MRL, but that was too much of a monster to really get much started. IT would be nice if CMTMS was MP compatible, but its not. So car forwarding is right there next to impossible. But it could be done.

I could make up yard lists and train orders. These would guide yard operators when making up trains as well as road crews when they go out.

That's the one thing that disappoints me the most about MP, is the lack of prototypical operations. Most sessions i Have see its, "I think Ill go here and do this, then I might go here and do that." There is no direction, no reason to it. I might load a box car at industry A with the intent for it to go to industry B. But some one else might decide to take it to industry C. And that, for me at least, just does not fly.

But that's just my $0.02 on the idea of operations. Like I said, Ill take a look into it.

Well there are a lot of unit trains that hardly are broken apart and made into new consists on my route. Such as: Montana Dakota owns consists A and B but A goes to Rawhide to load that purchased quantity while B needs to go to Buckskin. These I feel don't really need much because all of the unit coal trains go to one single power plant on the route and only have 3 to load at in the same general area. The freight operations are where I need the most help. I plan to add more rolling stock to the other yards and add in a few more industries where there should be one except I neglected to place them. More freight consists are needed in my opinion, so they don't all start at one yard like I have them. Besides, people will get tired of just running up and down the line with a coal train over and over.

I seen this route and had to download it just because i love coal drag and multi unit trains (2 unit trains in 1) Keep up the good work

Having tried it out and read these posts here is my opinion, for what it is worth. Because it is a small route in terms of MB I assumed it would probably be pretty poor or even rubbish. Which just shows how wrong you can be when making assumptions. The scenery is good to the point of excellence. The Railway Infrastructure is good. As for the turnouts being too short there is a rule to bear in mind when consructing them. "The longer the switch. the higher the line speed". I was driving over your short switches at 10 mph which looked and felt fine. You only need to change them if you want higher line speeds. Talking of which, I didn,t come across any speed limit signs. You should have some. The coal Industry is also excellent. I especially like the yard filled with empty coal trains waitint to go to the Collierys to be filled. It adds a sense of realism for me. There is scope here for creating jobs for people joining the session. I would sugest the the first name of an Industry should be the location where it is to make it easier to identify for players. As an example, All industries in Sheridan should be named " Sheridan ....etc! etc!. I noticed you have done that with a number of Industries already. There are also a number of locations where I felt there ought to be an Industry but wasn,t. I did notice in this thread you are already are of that. And, yes I did notice the MIN you forgot to name, LOL. The biggest downside is I,m working on a signalling project, unrelated to Trainz, which means I don,t have too much time for it these days. This is also partly do to the fact N3V Games scewed up MP.
