Potentially Sensitive Question

Hi,
I'm doing a route based around 70s New York (roughly in the period 73 to 82 including GG1 operation, Penn Central etc) and I want your opinion on whether I should include the towers of the former World Trade Center in my route. Obviously in the period described they were a prominent (and brand new) piece of the skyline that was impossible to miss from several locations. On a minimal draw distance it won't make any difference but I'm very fond of "train with NYC skyline in the background"-type shots and I can't decide whether I should leave them out out of respect or include them because not having them would be erasing history.

Don't change history to be politically correct. If the towers were present during the years you're modeling, include them, for heaven's sake!

Well then I've put them in. I sort of anticipated this response anyway but I thought I better be safe then sorry. The route isn't totally prototypical as I have put some 'fun factor' in it...

I got to go there on a GG1 in 1970 into Penn Station and only the Empire State building was visible, do not know when World Trade Center was built.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard there are some people who are going back and removing the WTC's from old movies. That's a shame IMHO.

Yes. I live in Argentina, but I am a native born New Yorker, having lived in NYC until the age of 37 (then moving to Florida for ten years). I was also one of the few (I would think on this Forum), actually at "Ground Zero" on that faithful day of: 9-11-01! (I had went to work that morning by subway [ #4 train] to "Fulton Street" station [two blocks from the WTC] only to see that horrific site that had befalled NYC/the nation/the world, walking up that last flight of stairs and outside onto the street that day!!! :o

There's a saying that has/and is still said since, by all good New Yorker's, people of Washington DC, and any good American relating to that infamous day: "NEVER FORGET" !

-I SAY include the WORLD TRADE CENTER.

That's ridiculous, that's like taking the Zeppelin, Arizona, Chernobyl, and other important historical things and ripping them straight out of the history books. We need to remember these things how they were before the bad things that happened, happened... That's how we move on and make things better for the future of all mankind.

I say you should leave the towers in, if the circa period had them, then the route should have them.

Well, such rewriting of history is happening all too much.

Anyway, not only am I glad to see that the WTC is in a Trainz route, I am glad to see such (an) asset(s) exist.
