Not so Tline. I,ve used portals on every layout and never had a problem.
Always use portal manager(AJS site) and youwill find great things will follow. I currently have about 12 trains exiting portals on the midland360 layout and plan more. For consists to return, set up a portal on its own and click the train return with timer. tell it where to go(politely) and watch the action.

ASAIK, the route is fixed - you can't have train 1 emitted at portalB, then train 2 at portalC.
can you send a train from one iportal in one route to another iportal in another route?
Something to use if you have more then one iportal is panel selector rule kuid2:30671:60010:3> This rule will give you a little orange box on lift top of your screen. Clicking on it in driver will list your iportals and you can make changes to them. (like sending a train to another iportal) The only things that need to be setup is the name, the iportal ID,the montering time, and manual or auto.
Naming: Anything you like
Iportal ID: Anything you like.( make it short and lower case )
Next two leave them blank (fill them in in driver in case you want to iportal someone in another country)
Send trains: via within this computer ( you can send trains to another route that has iportal(s) in your game. Internet means you can send trains to anyone in the world that has a iportal as long as you know there user name & iportal ID)
Check for trains: every___ minute ( i set this to max 60 minutes this will give you time to send a lot of trains to another route without a train emitting before you are ready, you can click on create a train at any time up to that time then the train will emitt on it's own.
Drive mode: Set it your way
