Portals

First, I am a newbie. Installed TRS2006 two weeks ago. I can not find Portals mentioned anywhere in my manual. Does anyone know where to find an in depth discussion of Portals and how they can be programmed?

I am attempting to create a foreign road interchange. I have created a consist with engine and 6 cars. I would like it to emerge once, go to the track marker for the interchange, uncouple and have the engine return to the portal.

Problems I am encountering:

1. When I create the consist, assign an engineer and list the driver commands, "uncouple" does not show up as an option.

2. I don't have a choice to list the trains I want to release and when, only a timer interval between trains. (It would be great to trigger the release of a train by an event such as setting out cars at the interchange to be picked up by the foreign road.)

Any advise would be welcome.

I believe you mean this link : http://www.trains.0catch.com/Tut7-IntroToPortals.htm

There was a typing error in your link, dabbie.

Regarding 1.) You have to enable "Uncouple" in the "Driver Commands" rule first, otherwise it will not be available to select.
Also try "Uncouplez" >DOWNLOAD< and "Uncouplez From" >DOWNLOAD< for even more interactivity (Uncouple from Wagon #X).

Regarding 2.) There is a rule on the DLS you can download called "Emit Train Now" >DOWNLOAD< which allows you to, if properly configured in surveyor, call in any train with any orders at any time while being in driver.
It is very easy to use and I don't think any more explanation is neccessary.

Thanks for the input. How does one enable the "Uncouple" command ?

How does one add driver commands to a consist?

I tried using "Emit Train Now" but could not figure out how to specify my interchange consist.

So much to learn . . .

Indeed, it's a neverending learning process :) but entertaining.

To enable the Uncouple Command :
- Start TRS2006
- Open your map with Surveyor
- Move your Mouse to the upper left corner
- Click on the "Surveyor Menu"
- Select "Edit Session"
If you do not have "Driver Command" in the list, klick "Add" and add it
- Click on "Driver Command" and select "Edit"
- Place a checkmark at all the driver commands you want to have enabled
- Couple
- Decouple
- Uncouplez
- Uncouplez From

To use the Uncouple Command :
- Back in the "Edit Session" Screen klick on "Driver Setup"
- Add a driver and assign him a Locomotive
- Klick in the grey horizontal bar to add commands to the driver
These commands will be executed as soon as the map is being loaded in Driver

To use the "Emit Train Now" :
- Add a Portal to your map and connect it with rails (You should give it an easy to find name if you are using multiple portals on the map)
- In the "Edit Session" Screen klick "Add" and select the "Emit Train Now" Rule
- Klick on the "Emit Train Now" Rule and select "Edit"
- Under "Portals Available" add the Portal you have placed on your map
- Under "Vehicles Available" you can select Trains and Wagons which should be available in the Train Selection (doesn't work for me, I am getting a script runtime error, but that is another story)
- Save the Map and Switch to Driver
- At the bottom of the screen just above the horizontal Consist bar klick on "New Train"
- You can either add Trains and Wagons one by one, or in the upper left corner you can switch to "Saved Consists", whichever way you prefer
- When you have added a Train or saved consist, select a Portal to send the train to in the center of the screen (right of the driver logo)
- Klick in the Horizontal bar under the driver logo and add Commands as you like (e.g. "Drive to Trackmark X")
- Klick "Send to Portal" in the upper right corner

That's it.
I think you'll figure the rest out on your own :) Good Luck.

I have a small problem with portals. While I am not exactly a newbie I haven't used portals very often. My problem now is this:
As we all know you can specify an alternate portal when you set up a portal to accept a train and re-emit it some time later (let's say one minute). After the train re-appears in whatever portal you set up that train is driverless at first. I tried this once. When I clicked on its loco the original driver re-appeared but without any commands pre-stored. Is there any way to pre-store a command for a driver of a train that re-appears from any portal?

Dralex,

I found when using that feature that the driver remembers any commands in his list that follow the "call at portal" command on his/her schedule. They simply carry on with the schedule once they come out the other portal. I had them repeating the same schedule continually to empty an industry, go out a portal, come back unloaded, and repeat.
