Portals

Learning... slowly!
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a simple tutorial on Portals? Despite this forum classifying me as a 'Trainz Veteran' I don't actually understand them and I'd like to- partly to understand and use them for what they're designed for, but also because on quite a few pre-made/downloaded routes I want to try extending them myself but there are portals at all the 'open' ends- ie wherever track runs to the edge of the map, so I'd like to understand how to remove them and replace them.

Sorry that's a bit wordy.
Thanks in advance,

Alex

Hi alexi102, Portals are in the objects tab on the right of your screen in surveyor. Bring out the tab and type P or po in the search box, there should be more than one. Left click on the portal in the main tab list then left click on your route and the portal should appear. You might have to rotate it and move it to line up the way you want it. After placing and joining track to it right click on the portal and a small window will open with various options. Set your options and you're done. Something wrong here my enter key does nothing. Cheers, Bill69.

There is a setting for this on the forum go to:.

"Settings" in the Forum banner at the top of the screen:

then "My Settings" in the panel on the left,

then under "My Account" - "General Settings",

Towards the bottom of that screen is "Miscellaneous Options" from here click on the "Standard Editor" then "Save" settings.

Copying and pasting from Notepad also retained the extra lines I added between the steps above.

As it is quite entailed I may be able to help you understand, and configure Portals and iPortals using the Forum PM, or preferably free Skype IM

Hi dnevans8,

Thanks for the heads up on that, I could not remember where it could be changed.

Now it is changed back I still don't know how it changed in the first place.

Cheers,
