Portals and Running Numbers

After a brief search of the forums, I determined that there, as far as I could find, was no topic on this subject:

I like the idea of portals producing trains as it allows for more interesting running, but the one thing that bothers me is that trains produced by portals do not have running numbers, and as far as I could find there was no way to give them some without making separate skins for each and every locomotive, which would take up a reasonable amount of space. So, including assets on the download station, is there any way to make portals produce trains that have running numbers?

Cheers,

I think there are only 2 possiblities. Either use locos with fixed running numbers or use locos with ARN capability.

There is a third possibility: :)

"Locomotive Running Numbers Command" by Phil_C on the DLS

You can add this command to the command list (see thumbnail on the DLS) of your consists and (most of) your locomotives will appear with numbers, when they are leaving the portal.

Hi,

This command works fine, but is there any way to limit the numbers?
I use quick drive to place locos in driver mode. I would like to give a number to a loco in a certain range.
Is it possible?

If you are familiar with editing config files, you could also use these ready made scripts :

eldavo's NumberIt

and

andi06's Superscript

Jointed Rail's variation on the AR script allows a specific running number to be allocated in Surveyor and that number will be retained by that loco 'for ever' including repeat Portal spawnings.

Any ARN loco has the possible numbers limited to a certain range...

Hi Dermmy,
by "ARN loco", you mean special build locos or loco with ARN script?(if the scipt is to be added to the loco...)

Yes, any loco with an ARN script will have the assigned numbers selected form within an upper and lower limit defined in the loco's config.

If the leasing company ABCX owns 10 SD40-2s numbered 101 - 110 then to keep things realistic the upper and lower limits of the range need to be defined. Otherwise you could get a completely inappropriate number...

Thank you AussiePaul.
That is the superscript library from Andi06. I was aware about this script but I thought that JointedRail had another script for running numbers.
I must have missed a train about that... sorry.
Ok I will try Andi06's script.
