Port Ogden & Northern Problems with TRS2004

Hello,

I am trying to get the driver sessions of Phil Skenes Port Ogden & Northern Railroad to work in TRS 2004 but ran into some problems.

With the driver sessions "HiCap", "MoW" and "North Side" I am receiving error messages about missing content (unfortunately without any details). Auto-Download from Download Station has no effect and TrainzObjects does not report any missing stuff in the map.

I get this from jetlog.txt:

- 00000E88 Prog 1:49.9 Trainz : Animation::Open> unable to find animation 'downloads/kuid 60697 28002/Diesel_Depot/anim.kin'
- 00000E88 Prog 1:58.6 Trainz : DriverCommands.SetProperties> requested driver command was not available, creating <kuid2:67585:1017:1>

- 00000E88 Prog 1:59.2 Trainz : DriverCommands.SetProperties> requested driver command was not available, creating <kuid:-3:10058>
? 00000E88 Warn 2:22.8 Trainz : Unable to load texture 'downloads/kuid2 69871 101 1/Loco Russian 3TE10M A unit_art/Loco Russian 3TE10M A unit_art_icon.texture' from 'world/dispatcher'
? 00000E88 Warn 2:22.8 Trainz : TrainzTextureResource::Bind> couldnt load 'downloads/kuid2 69871 101 1/Loco Russian 3TE10M A unit_art/Loco Russian 3TE10M A unit_art_icon.texture' from 'world/dispatcher'

I think I have installed the special Loco package after downloading from Rapidshare as requested in the description and also additional stuff requested in the readme files of this loco package.

However in the directories referenced above (kuid2 69871 101 1) I cannot find any 'unit_art' subdirectory, i.e. it has directories

3te10m_art
3te10m_body
3te10m_shadow
config.txt
s_tp_v1-1a.gs

There is also no 'anim.kin' in kuid 60697 28002. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Guido --

Hmmm. Unfortunately I can't access my Trainz PC right now, but it certainly seems that either you have faulty dependencies, or they didn't install correctly.

Questions - does PO&N load without any errors; can you create a session with just the built-in assets without any error messages?

If you get no errors, PO&N is OK.

If that is the case, either you are missing dependencies from the Download Station, or the files from Rapidshare are missing or corrupt.

I'd suggest:
Use TrainzObjectz to remove the sessions and that Russian locomotive completely.
Re-download the files from Rapidshare and install them.
Check that the Rapidshare rolling stock actually works.
Download the sessions and any dependencies needed from the DLS.

As always, I did check those sessions. I have a spare PC that has just the basic TRS2004 on it. I downloaded PO&N, the sessions and the dependencies. They all worked fine for me.

Tell us how you go with this.

Hello Phil,

thanks for your reply.

I have not tried to create one myself, but as some driver sessions worked the general setup seemed to be OK.

Your checks are really appreciated, but I am not really sure whether the different TRS2004 products are all the same. I have a German TRS2004 Deluxe and have updated to the latest service pack 4 version. Do you really start from scratch and download everything needed again from the download station? My feeling is that some guys have removed their content and you never know what might be missing until eventually trying it again.

I now wrote a small Perl script myself that analyzed all the config.txt files in order to find missing stuff because TrainzObjects doesn't seem to be able to search for missing entries in anything else but maps.

Then I began hunting for the stuff. Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of entries that appear to have been removed from the download station. Also I am not sure whether entries with very low first number in the kuid scheme are really downloadable or somehow already magically contained in the TRS2004 base version even if they are not present in their own directories.

To keep a long story short: I magically managed to get the problematic sessions for Port Ogden & Northern to run but don't ask me what exactly caused the problems.

I have still a lot of problems with sessions for your other maps, like PSC1a, RRC1a, IndustRail8a and YardSwitchingCo1a. I will try to describe these in separate threads, hope this is ok with you.

Best regards

Guido

I've downloaded all three of those and a couple of others in the last two days and also had a few problems at first. But I got them all working.
If I remember correctly there were read me files in those downloads from Rapidshare. In the read me files there were listed other assets that would be needed and those were all on the DLS. About 9 or 10 of them altogether.

Yeah, as I said PO&N works ok now.

Generally I wish TRS2004 would not just show up this black screen without any hint, but give detailed kuid output. They might have intended to give more hints, I am not sure whether the current missing output is due to a bug in the software.

Unfortunately there is no central directory which helps to locate KUID and KUID2 stored outside of DLS.

TrainzObjects doesn't seem to be able to search for missing entries in anything else but maps.
To use Trainz Objectz to check for missing items in a driver session or a scenario, in the lower part of the screen click the Profile or Scenarios box respectively, then right-click the relevant session or scenario in the list and in the resulting menu click the "Show items used in profile (or scenario)" option.

To use Trainz Objectz to check for missing rolling stock parts (bogies, enginespecs, hornsounds, pantographs, etc) click the Menu button near bottom right and select the "Check for missing RS parts" option.

Hope this helps,

John

I run 2004 as well and I have found lately that on Download Station the search doesn't always recognise content with the kuid2 prefix. I ran the search without the 2 and found them Ok.

many thanks for those hints ;)

At least I could find the missing stuff for RRC1a session HudsonTurn this way. For the other sessions of this and other maps (you might have seen the other threads I've opened) both map and sessions do not report anything missing in Trainz Objects, but I still get the black screens reported by TRS2004. I am really out of ideas on how to fix this.

Am I correct in assuming that it is best to start checking a session and not a map?

If the check is truly fully recursive, the session check should include the map used and its dependencies as well as any objects like locos and their deps.

Does TrainzObjects also check whether the internal textures and other stuff required etc. can be found and/or loaded? I am unsure whether it does only kuid-to-kuid dependency checks or more.

Best regards

Guido

It seems to check one level down each time, so to check a session or scenario:
Check the session or scenario itself,
then check its map,
then check for missing RS parts (which checks all installed rolling stock).
Also check for duplicate KUID's, just in case

Two more places to look for clues, after trying to run the session:
The jetlog file
The log0.html file (but this is confusing as it often lists errors which don't matter)
