Suffering from neglect
.
Here’s a shot which represents examples of just three of the creators work I like to use. There are many more though. This just happens to be the bit I’m working on at the moment.
The bridge is by samplaire
<kuid:132952:101015> SAM VS Bridge 6.6m v3 H20m. OK, not painted – but beautifully textured. I particularly like the stonework and the white deposits leeching out of the ornate bits of the masonry above the piers.
The building on the left is
<kuid:149987:25888> FMA Abandoned bld 5 by vendel. Wonderful flaking and grimy paintwork. The canopy and plinth are 3D, which adds to the overall effect as do the shadows beneath the canopy and roof guttering.
The barn is one of Deane’s
<kuid:68213:27075> Derelict barn 06 . This one seems to fit in any landscape in any country. I do like the rusty roof and weathered walls.
NB some assets may be kuid2: etc, but I only put in the two main numbers separated by a single colon on a DLS search to get a result for a specific asset. (Putting in the word "kuid", additional colons and suffix numbers, or anything else results in “No Downloads Found”). To get returns of all of the creators work, put in the author’s User ID number, without a colon.
If you go to the DLS to search these out, note that they are all well described, and have properly representative thumbnail images. This attention to detail at the DLS upload stage not only allows the asset being searched to be easily found, it's also a good indicator that the work will also be well thought through and a first class addition to any layout.
Tip: when you find such gems, always do a username (creator) search to get their complete list of work. You won’t be disappointed.
With these ageing, unkempt, structures it’s worth remembering that they rarely live in a pristine location. I therefore like to add some appropriately grimy ground texturing plus bits of foliage around their base, to firmly anchor them into the ground and increase the illusion of neglect.
Finally, a quick word of thanks to all of the great creators who have made this simulator such a joy to use. I can’t think of anything else that could have kept my attention for six years ... and still counting.
