First heard about Trainz when searching for MSTS content. I came across this site where you had the locos on turntables. You could spin them round with your mouse.

Back when I was...let's see.....13ish (Good Lord, have I really been playing Trainz for that long?) I was searching for software that would let me "drive trains." (I had no idea what a "sim" was.) Doing so, I stumbled upon the demo for Trainz 1.1 and had a blast with it.

Went to Gamestop, found and bought UTC, and the rest is history.

I had the "other one" - MSTS - and liked it. Saw Ultimate Trainz in a computer store and bought it too.

I have both on my computer today (Ultimate, TRS2004, TRS2006, TC1&2 - soon TC3. Looking forward to TRS2009 - then TRS2020 - TRS 2030, etc, etc

For obvious reasons (at least to anyone who has used MSTS), I prefer Auran.

For a very long time I'd been looking for a good train simulator, not just for the heck of it, but also because I'd always wondered what it'd be like to drive a train.

A fellow Trainzer showed me some screenies of a route he was building, which happened to be the preserved railway line I worked at on weekends. The quality of the screenies, and what was in them, was much better than anything I'd seen in MSTS forums. After asking he told me he used TRS2004, about an hour and some research later I found out that the newest then available (about two years ago, or so) version was TRS2006. After hinting to some people I finally got it for Christmas in 2006. I've been Trainzing ever since, and to be honest, I'm very glad I didn't choose something else.

I first got Trainz when I stumbled across it in a computer game store. I had heard a while before about MSTS the M$ was planning but that was all. So I first bought UTC thinking it was MSTS. And i've stuck with Auran ever since...

I first saw trainz in a Model Railroader ad, which seems odd because MR doesn't like V scalers, I was interested, went down to the game store and bought UTC.

I found it on a battle of the books (a event at our school) field trip. Was looking for books and found Trainz 2006 at BestBuy.

Never heard of M$T$ and will never get it. Always sticking with Auran. :)

Cheers,
Adam

I was looking for train stuff on e-bay, I obtained a copy of M$T$ and UTC, took ages trying to get the MS version to work properly, then found out that it wasn't realistic enough, crap exhaust from diesels, very tiny wisps of steam from great huge steam locos chugging along at 50 mph, totally unrealistic sounds, so I thought this isn't authentic enough and tried UTC. Enjoyed the built-in stuff from Australia the most, funnily enough, and carried on buying further versions, up to today, I have 14 boxed versions of Trainz tucked away on my bookshelf, and soon TC3 will be the next adventure......

I voted TV/Radio,

I believe it was around October 2001 when Channel Ten Sydney had a little 'promo' piece on Trainz as part of the nightly news. I then searched on line and found the website where I soon placed a pre-order and received a copy of the 'community edition' in December.

Been here ever since ! :D

Ran across Trainz in November of 2001. Was frustrated with trying to learn MSTS route building. Found Auran's site on the web and bought the retail version as soon as it was available. I started creating content soon after.

The original trainz was under development when I bought Auran's MSTS North American Add-On. I remember there was a pamphlet inside that talked about it. I researched and discovered the Development videos of the original Trainz and was completely floored by its graphics and its ease of doing things. This was way back in 2000/2001 (something like that). So naturally, when I got it, I loved it.

Keep doing things right, and I'll stick around hopefully for TRS 2021 :D:p

Well for me it of course started with MSTS for me:hehe: Then the game broke so I just gave up on trains for awhile gaming wise, but continued to browse the web for MSTS add-ons etc. and came across this thing called Trainz 2004 made by this weird company called Auran:confused: And without even knowing it I bought the very first version of trainz from a book sale at my elementary school to replace MSTS before I even knew about 2004.
So I left it at that for a few more years. Then I finally buckled down and started nagging my mom about this game called Auran Trainz 2006.
She of course got it after bribing her with I'll do my chores type thing.
Then I played it was a complete n00b like anyone else. So I put it away after awhile. Then came back and started again and grew.
Then TC came along and I did the same process I mentioned above to get it:hehe:
And looks like I MAY have to pull them out again:hehe: :o :p

Has to be "Other" for me as Greg Lane posted on the joint forum I operated with Barney (Crotrainz) to solicit views on the viability of a new train sim but one that had the focus on "collectibles" (luckily the end result became more conventional!).

Ditto for me - it must have been the same news item.

I was searching things that i liked as a child online
thought about the old Hornby steam trains i loved as a kid & it just went from there,
then saw MS from looking at gaming sites,
then i did a Google search for train sims & found TRS2004, I was Gobsmacked on the spot.

As soon as i saw the The QR 2100 class & found out it was made right here in Brisbane
I was so proud it was a local Australian company I went out & got it straight away.

Thanks Auran, you gave me the train set i always wanted as a young fella :Y:

My favorite part is Surveyor. Still Building my 3 gauge layout since i got it in 2004, dont mind saying I'm happy with it. love My 2ft (600mm) Industry.

The best part of '04 is the Trainz Objects program that has made me never feel the need to upgrade. ('04 FOREVER):D

This doesn't mean i don't like what you have done since then. LONG LIVE TRAINZ!

Cheers,
Torana. :)

It was on the Sunrise TV show long ago was running on the commodore 64 then what a great game it was - and then it got ported accross to the commodore 128 and like wow it was even better so when I got my first XT with its 8086 chip trainz just had to be my first choice to fill up my now whopping 20Mb unfillable hard drive. And now to think I have 2Tb on one computer and thats only good for 10 hours of hi def video - were will it all end.

Yes I did see it on Sunrise :hehe: the rest is all bull.:hehe:

Trainsim.com site while wrestling with MSTS.

I think Ed and I are twins :)

If it wasn't for MSTS, Train-sim.com, (including the forum), I might have never heard about Trainz.

MSTS was cool, but Trainz opened up a whole different world to me. I was hooked. That and the "Control_1" avi file.

:mop:
