... why can N3V not include in T:ANE a backward compatability with earlier speedtree compilations? It is common to most software that updates to the program will still include backward compatability.
Id just like to chip in, to all the people that are worried about TANE without a certain creators assets.....
There was a time when no assets for trainz existed at all..... People stood up and created assets for it.... Now alot of assets created for older versions no longer work, and those people are updating them, OR, OTHER people are repairing, or REPLACING those assets.... Life is full of Possibility, please don't underestimate it and give it time to play out before one starts catastrophizing.... People come and go.

Just curious, Paul, is there any reason why you wouldn't want to release either route with a target of TS2010 or TS12?
I'm looking forward to T:ANE, I really am. But, with that said, I'm still building my SEPTA route for TS2010. One of my key reasons is because I'd like as many people to be able to enjoy it as possible, and there's certainly going to be some percentage of Trainzers (probably a pretty hefty number, going by past experience) who won't upgrade or will wait to do so, for whatever reason.
Plus, it's going to be awhile before there is much content available that will take advantage of T:ANE, visually and otherwise. Coupled with the generally dwindling number of content creators, it'll probably be a long time. Of course, I respect your decision either way.
As an old adage might say, "hope for T:ANE and plan for TS12." :hehe:

So looks like I'll keep building in TS12 for a while yet!
Vern,
I just tried some Pofig trees in the current pre-beta and they don't show up at all. Surveyor goes through the motions of placing them, but there's no tree.
I was thinking the same..

Thanks for this John. So I guess this means if someone were, for example, to install Ashburton-Windrush in TANE, no trees will appear and it won't be possible to do an asset replace either? Ho hum.
Paul
To be fair to N3V, I would assume any Speedtrees on the DLS will get upgraded as they are covering the creators under their licence. Still time for pofig to come round and take up the offer to recompile the things.
Replacing assets? if aware in advance that it's not going to be possible in T:ANE the obvious answer is to replace temporarily with something that does work before moving the route to T:ANE, and then replace the replacements with whatever is available. Tedious but not impossible.
