Please explain "Prototipical"

Adj. 1. prototypical

Adj.1.prototypical - representing or constituting an original type after which other similar things are patterned

N:
1. An original type, form, or instance serving as a basis or standard for later stages.
2. An original, full-scale, and usually working model of a new product or new version of an existing product.
3. An early, typical example.

This is a serious question, please explain this term to me, in relation to Trainz that is.

As I understand it, it means "as it is in reality", meaning as "it" would behave in real life. The "it" being anything like either a locomotive, behavior, look, speed, acceleration or what have you.

A web site describes it as: Having the nature of, constituting, or serving as a type: archetypal, archetypic, archetypical, classic, classical, model, paradigmatic, prototypal, prototypic, quintessential, representative, typic, typical.

Another as:
1. An original type, form, or instance serving as a basis or standard for later stages.
2. An original, full-scale, and usually working model of a new product or new version of an existing product.
3. An early, typical example.
4. Biology A form or species that serves as an original type or example.

Yet another:
1. representing or constituting an original type after which other similar things are patterned.

The Wikipedia as:
A prototype is an original type, form, or instance of something serving as a typical example, basis, or standard for other things of the same category.

Unless someone has a better explanation :hehe:.

*Edit: Got beaten by above while looking up definitions. At least Google can give you most answers you might be looking for. :hehe:

WOW, thank you for all the explanations, I thought that "prototipical" may be a little involved and I was not mistaken. Personally i'm just a Trainz Gamer but I gather that you get a Trainz Prototipical User, wich is someone who takes his Trainz very serious and requires it to be an exact simulator of the real thing. Correct?

Well, yes - in the Trainz community the term 'prototypical', however, can be seen (from time to time) as nothing more than a kind of slogan of the anal retentive.

The pursuit of reality in a simulator is a pointless task.

You are correct, but there are some of us (including me), who enjoy creating routes that are loosely based on the real thing.

So don't get the idea that everyone on here creates routes there are exact to the MM (Miller Meter). I guess we all can't be like slugsmasher.......:hehe:

Snip....'metre' or 'meter'.....

Our "poor" english cousins from the US of A are excused from their spelling as they also use liters, have color etc. We use litres, have colour in our lives, use tyres on our cars, they have tires on theirs and so on.

Or as they would say: Oils ain't oils :p.

Must be something in their "genetic" makeup :hehe:.

Cheers
