Picture frustration

I have been trying to take pictures of one of my branch lines but getting nowhere after repeated trying. I use the print screen key then try to paste them into Paint. Got two but all I now get time after time is a black screen when i paste into Paint. After 20 minutes i only managed two and just continued black screen.

The print screen key should put a screen image into the Userdata/Screenshots folder. There isn't any reason to use paint unless you want to edit the image afterwards.

If you want to copy the screen, try the Windows Snipping Tool which comes with Windows 7 and up. It's located under the Start Menu and under Accessories.

I just use irfanview to open them from the screenshots folder and use it's batch processing to resize, no need to copy and paste anywhere. If you are having problems it may be related to running OpenGL which doesn't always play nicely with Prt Scr in Trainz. DirectX has worked perfectly for screenshots on all versions of Trainz I have used, that includes TS12SP1.

I paste my .jpg screenshots into MS-Paint, but it only works if the Trainz Display Settings are set to DirectX.

I always get a black screen when set to OpenGL.

The alternative method, via the Auran generated file path, saves the images as .tga files (in TRS2004) which, for me, is a bit of a faff. It means having to open, work my way through, and save with Gimp. I find it too long winded. MS-Paint is quick and easy for simple screenshots.

2009 upwards saves as jpg's so avoids issues with opening TGA's. Most people, unless they are suffering the OpenGL issue, should be able to just open in whatever graphics program they are using by double clicking the file.

Apologies for the delay

Firstly, the version is 2010 and I didn't clarify something important which i should have done! I wasn't trying to insert pics here on the Forum but on my Trainz website to show progress hence using Paint. I have completed 6 routes of a rail company and with something between over three dozen to fifty for each slideshow. I have had this problem each time after time and I groan at the thought each batch and this latest batch of 51 or 52 took me literally ages because each time i tried to paste in a jpg it took at least 2 efforts and often 3.

TS2010 is the same as TS2009 SP4 and TS12 regards the UserData folder. Attempting to do it into Paint will fail for these versions.

Ah, right. This rings a very distant bell from ages ago. When I add my next route to my build I must remember this, Thanks for clarification!

As JCitron said in post 3, when you hit the printscreen button the screenshot is stored in the Userdata/Screenshot folder. You will probably find all the screenshots you have captured but failed to paste are stored in this folder. You will be able to open any or all of them in Paint, or if you locate the Trainz userdata/screenshots folder using Windows explorer you can copy and paste them from there into paint.
