PEV's Tools

You should get a User Account Control box appearing before the program launches (usually with a Yes/No box). If it doesn't, this means it's either not running as administrator, or that you've turned User Account Control off.

Yeah I have it turned off. I wonder if anyone else using Windows 8.1 could verify if they are using PEVs tools.

Why don't you try to set them up as 'Run in Administrator' as you would in Win 7? Im sure its probably the same or near enough.
That is, highlight and R click on a one of PEVs tool icons >Go down to Properties and click on it > then in the next window open the Compatability tab > move down to the line Run as Administrator > Put a tick in the box beside it > then Save and Exit.
Open it again to check you were successful and this a time it should come up with the account control screen first as Shane mentions. Then do that to all the others.
I see in one of your earlier posts in this thread [a picture in post #6] that you have your main game residing in Program Files [86] That could be your problem. I hav always been told not to put in in that folder as it can cause problems but to hang it directly off C drive [ or what ever drive you use ]
For what its worth, My file path is C:/ N3V Games/Ts12/...... Oter s I new are just C:/ Ts12/.......
Im sure Shne can advise you on that. Cheers

If UAC has been turned off (which is not recommended by Microsoft for obvious reasons) then it should automatically run programs as administrator without prompting.

In terms of where to install Trainz versions, the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders have additional restrictions that are not present on other folders (apart from the Windows and System Volume Information folders), hence why it's better to install Trainz in a subfolder of the root drive e.g. c:/games/ts12.

Shane, when in CM, my Trains Mesh viewer comes up as Open with Train car viewer. My mate in Australia has the same version [Trains Mesh2 2.25 Nov2013'] as I do. I've just heard from him and he says his one opens up with Trains Mesh Viewer not Train Car viewer as mine does.
As you seem to be the caretaker of PEV's tools theses days have you any idea why that would be? The subsequent action is different in each one too when they open
Cheers

It does to a certain extent depend on whether it's a fresh install of that version or an upgrade from a previous version of the tool.

Thank you sir. This seemed to work. I now have my macros working for each of his tools and can open them directly from CM.

After further review... not in Windows 8 or 8.1 as it did in Windows 7 and Vista. Changing the UAC to "Never Notify" does just that. It simply doesn't prompt the user. It never completely turns off UAC. Let's just say it's running in stealth mode. The way to completely disable in Windows 8 is:

Open regedit and locate this key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

In the right pane look for EnableLUA and modify its value to 0.

I posted in another thread that my new machine has 1920 x 1080 dpi display. While this makes for a fantastic high resolution Trainz display, the in game menus and text seem microscopic at times. Changing the in game options for the resolution didn't change a thing. Until now! I'm running Trainz as administrator.

You just gotta love Microsoft sometimes... :p

dricketts: Glad you got it right. Re your new PC I also use 1920 x 1080 Full screen HD on a 27 inch monitor and it makes trains worth while My Mate in Australia has a 32 in monitor. Its serious stuff!!
you say it makes much of the text trains look small especially the Tab menus in Surveyor etc.

I see you are creating a route called The Frisco High Line. I had a look a some of your screen shots and it looks very good. Is it Still a WIP or has it been released?
Cheers

Yes it does at full resolution of 1920 x 1080. I'm only using a 15 in monitor on a gaming laptop. The tabs and text in surveyor can be quite tiny on my monitor at this resolution. After changing the UAC settings for Trainz I dropped it to 1600 x 900 and it's made quite the difference while still maintaining very nice resolution.

Thanks and yes it's still a work in progress. I'm working on it tonight a bit.
