Hello;
I'm running TS2010 on an older (5yrs) system; specs listed in my sig.
I normally run TS in OGL mode.
I have found that the only way I can get frame rates (Fraps) of at least 30hz minimum, is to set draw distance way back to 1Km, and all 3 of the detail (Scenery, Texture, and Train) to normal.
I guess that considering I am running an older system with a single core processor, this is the best that I can do. I have already tried overclocking the CPU and GPU, but neither seems to have much, if any effect. As a matter of fact, overclocking the GPU has no effect on frame rates. This has lead me to conclude that my bottleneck is the CPU, and possibly to a lesser extent, the system RAM.
Unfortunately for me, buying a new system is not an option right now.
So, I am constantly looking for ways to improve game play.
Unloading Norton Internet Security 2010 doesn't seem to do anything, since it runs in silent mode during game play. I'm thinking about playing with screen resolution, but I have done this before and don't recall having much of a result.
So, I guess the thing is to just accept the game as it plays on my system, which isn't all that bad as long as I keep the settings to the levels I mentioned, and I don't try to run routes with high detail.
I have been working on a huge route (CSX River Line) and now believe I am over-populating the route with trees. So, I have been using the TS2010 layers feature to place many of the trees and other object on different layers, so that I can turn off some of the scenery if I am getting poor performance. At the same time, having the detail in the layers, I can allow others (when I eventually make my route available) to run it in its full detail.
In the mean time, I've got to start day-trading on an up market to get some cash to buy a new system:hehe:
