Paulz Trainz

I recently purchased several models from Paulz, and I really like them but have run into some issues with cab controls.

The controls were unresponsive when running in cab control mode. I emailed Paul, and he advised me that it was necessary to substitute an interior from another loco for one of his models to run in cab control mode. This worked with one exeception. The coal level in the cab display would fall and was not replenished by pressing the space bar--the "shovel coal" control. I thought the problem might be that the model was an "oil burner," but I posted a question on this on the forum and was told this was irrelevant. The coal indication in the cab would reflect oil % and would be replenished by pressing the space bar.

I have tried everything I could think of, including checking the level of the fuel in tender--it's diesel which is not historically accurate, but is apparently what the game requires. i have also substituted various interiors. I would like to make sure I'm not missing something very simple before I contact him again.

Hi,

one thing you could try is copying this address into your address bar in my docs etc. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Auran\TS2010\UserData\settings". then open the file called "Keyboard" and check that its set to the space bar.

otherwise it could just be a basic cab or maybe an old one which cant do that.

I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work. I should have mentioned that I have tried other steam locos and the space bar works fine for shoveling coal in those.

Thanks. I'll wait a while and if no one else has any suggestions, I'll email Paul.

Yes, for example I've used the bigsteam_interior_mechanism, which is used in several locos including the Big Boy. It works in those. It activates the cab controls in the Paulz models except for the shovel coal function.

It appears that is is not a simple fix. Thanks for trying to help me on this.

Sorry, i really dont know what to suggest. if i think/find anything i will post it here or pm you.

thanks

I think I know the answer:

Maybe the tender is not configured to carry anything. This would mean that there is no coal in the tender to shovel. In Driver, Ctrl + right-click on the tender, and see if it has coal and water in it. In Surveyor, click the "?" and then on the tender. Any coal and water supplies should show up. If not, then the tender has no coal to shovel.

I have checked that already, but I have stumbled on something else. In the product queue it is listed as "oil" but the Kuid is diesel fuel. i renamed it diesel fuel but that didn't help. I then changed both the name and the kuid to "coal" and a strange thing happened. When I hit the spacebar the coal level dropped to 69%. After that I was able to replenish by hitting the spacebar but no higher that 69%. I'll try to figure it out tomorrow.

I just tried UP Big Boy with Tender fully loaded, water injector knob injects water and the space bar causes the fire box doors to open and the coal % increases.
Made a second run with the coal and water levels in the Tender set to 0. Opening the water injector knob does nothing and pressing the space bar doesn't cause the fire box doors to open and the coal % doesn't change. I made a third run without the Tender and got the same results, no injectors and and no shovel action.

I tried switching tender and loco. First I used the USRA Light Pacific Tender with the Paulz loco. This was the same result as when i changed the Paulz tenders product load from diesel to coal, the coal % dropped to 69 but increased after that upt to 69% when I hit the spacebar. Then I hooked the Paulz tender to the Pacific loco and nothing happened when I hit the spacebar.

I'm not sure what this means except that it appears that none of the locos will run on anything but coal. Does anyone have an oil or diesel burning steamer that works?
