patch won't patch

Heya, Been a while since I have posted.
Trying to both auto patch sp2, and manual patch, and it gets halfway thru and fails. No real message, just patch aborted. anyone have thoughts or know what's up with this? I'm running 38599 atm. Thanks in advance!

Yup. Did the same thing to me, and others as well. No suggestions from Auran to date about the failure of their patch to work. I'm taking it as a message from the computer gods to avoid 09 completely until someone actually fixes the thing.

another same here. my opening page says i'm running build 38411. install gets to somewhere around 85 to 90% then fails, and causes my xp to reboot.

i was suspecting something in my own os configuration, as adobe reader does the something similar. at least the sp2 patch doesn't remove earlier versions like the adobe updater did. 38411 still running as well as ever.

other updates don't have problem though. firefox updates go through just fine.

one thing that just crosses my mind; i didn't try to track down and turn off all possible virus filters before ok'ing the attempted autopatch.

don't know if that should effect or not.

I had a simular problem. Manual patching in Windows "safe" mode worked for me.

Worked here as well but without going into safe mode.
Just wondering if it's Microsofts wonderfull operating system(s) thats the cause of these failures, like it's not registering any activity because the manual patch appeared here to stop for a long time with very little activity and it's assumed the user has stopped using the PC and is turning something off to save power. I have come across that scenario in the past and now I have all power saving options disabled in device manager. Same effect as using safe mode I would guess?

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, Tonto!! Happened to me too. Not gonna try to install it until Auran gets it fixed.

Patch does Patch

I tried different ideas the one that worked for me on XP was:
download manual patch disconnect your internet close all progammes ie antivirus firewall etc make sure your power settings are on always try now
mine took 20 hours to patch be patient good luck:)

The safe mode trick let the patch work, but now I wish I hadn't done it.
Some trees look screwed up, and others have a white square around them, and worst of all the dang 'world looks white in the distance' problem isn't fixed. It's still bad in native and compat mode. Makes me want to hit uninstall on 2009, and go back to 2006. Not very well tested, I don't think.

One very unhappy trainzer.:(

.....'world looks white in the distance' problem isn't fixed. ....

I think you are referring to a draw distance problem for which there is a fix, there are some threads on the forum which describe what to do. I don't have the links but try searching for "uncached-alphas" or "splines" and look for threads relating to the patch.

This is an old problem, from before the patch, and usually only happened if you had older content checked in options. The whole complaint, is I want to play the game, not repair it. They are not paying us to fix their errors.

I get half-way, and the patch fails. I just don't get why we'd have to do a patch that makes us uninstall the game, spending hours backing up files, to do a patch that seems to not work? How exactly do I run in "Safe" mode Super? Right now, 06 seems really appealing.

Another un-happy trainzer,

Take care,

Ryan

Hi Buffy,

To run Windows (XP and others) in safe mode: durring boot up, before Windows starts, hold or press F5 repeatedly (what ever works) untill you get a widow asking what level of "safe mode" you want. choose plain old safe mode, no network. If unclear, try an interenet search or wait for a response by someone smart.:o
The patch could take a couple of hours. If and when finished, reboot. Then do a full TS2009 data base repair. That could take an hour or two.

I'm doing a database repair now, I just plan on by passing the Patch. It's taken just about an hour and I have over 550 or so of these messages in the task box:

Error: $tadtask_repair_changed

Thanks and take care,

Ryan:wave:

Still cant make it work

done all the above
auto patch didnt work
manual downlaod
checked power settings, set display to never, set sleep to never, disabled screen saver
turned off AV
ran it in safe mode

faced west, pressed start on a blue moon, with a finger washed in holy water sampled by a virgin (do you know how hard that was :o)

still didnt work. gets 50% and the fail message appears

i can configure a Ubuntu box with a multi wireless network at home but apparently im a moron cause I cant make 2009 work.

I have one lousy windows laptop and its for 2009 and my Lord of the rings battle for middle earth game :D which is getting lots more use at the moment.

im not a patient man at the best of times
:o
these are not the best of times

and it seems a little of the brethren get a tad miffed if we dare suggest their silly system for patching is silly and apparently we are whinging and whining. its the 2006 patch all over again, wasnt that a example of fine patch work :'(

i think its a slap in the face for all the content creators who spend months designing stuff to let us use it for nicks and they cant even give us a stable platform to run it on. Thanks to all the NSWGR creators out there. Love your work. Just wish i could run it:(

Don't feel like the only one Jedi! I tried mine untold number of times to no avail. Finally gave up and went back to 06. Looks the same as 09 to me. They need not be hitting me up for another "improved" trainz program until I see some positive comments on here about it.

Good advice. For people suffering with TS2009, moving to TRS2004 or TRS2006 is very likely to prove highly beneficial. The old versions are often available now as budget software at a very low cost. I won't bother to list their relative advantages and disadvantages here as that information is widely available in numerous threads which a search of this forum should find.

Why not just wait till they start selling a version with the SP2 patch already applied ? That 's what I'm going to do, maybe even wait till SP3 is factory applied too. Oh, and by the way SP3 has many of the same problems and it will be out soon. :hehe:
