Paste Rotation

Is there a way to make small adjustments using the paste rotation tool? I can only get 45° angles. This just doesn't work when trying to paste a row of trees track side.

You can paste any direction you want. Using the compass in the paste options. You could also paste a section of trees then use the move tool to individually move them off the tracks.

How? I can only paste at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, & 9:00. No small increments in between. Moving individual trees off miles and miles of track is pretty time consuming. If I could paste parallel to the track that would save so much time.

Sorry Derrick, "Paste" only works in 45 degree increments. You can tap the "[" or "]" key while pasting and it'll rotate for you. Saves time.

Are you talking about copy/pasting in the Tools meni? If so there seems to be no way to get anything but 90 degree rotation. As the selection by the tool has to be related to the grid vertices there can be no other chioce.

I could find no way to get 45 degree rotation of the pasted selection. How do you do it?

It is possible to select and paste a 5 metre square if the grid spacing is changed, this would possibly allow the track to be followed at 45 degrees but not with rotation of the selected area

Am I off the track, are we talking about copy/pasting a selection or application of a ground texture?

Just subscribing - like Peter afaik 90/180/270 are the only options. If I've missed something I have sunk about a thousand needless hours into EK3....

Selecting a smaller square or rectangle does not do it. It is possible to fake it and move on a 45 degree path but the selection is still pasted square with the grid so you end up with a sawtooth pattern of the pasted selections. The selected area of whatever size can only move from vertex to vertex/ square to square.

Think of a chess board.

Sorry I misspoke. I meant 90 degree increments not 45 degree angles.

I been using a staggered row of trees at different heights that were created as one object. The concept works excellent for quickly placing rows of trees along long stretches of track. Unfortunately the kuid I'm using is outdated and there are newer trees available that are a much higher quality. Splines look too straight and unnatural. I was trying to find a work around to placing individual trees and the pasting tool just won't work that well for what I'm trying to accomplish.

I've tried to convince Jankvis to create some payware with his existing trees like what I've described above but no luck yet. He's stuff is very high quality.

Ya sorry about that. I guess only textures can be pasted in 45 degree increments.

Just wondering.

I wonder if it is possible to make an scenery object such as a ground plane with attachment points for existing trees. Because this is a scenery object there would be no constraints on shape, position or rotation. The plane object would not need to be visible if it was preset to be below the surface.

I don't have time to try it, it may not be possible. There's a challenge for someone.

Here's what I've used in the past. Again great idea and it works great as one single object because you can rotate and adjust the height. It's just not really good quality by today's standards.

Hi All: I personally like to plant individual trees..The reason is quite simple its called Frame Rate..I can run a train by allot Splines and it will slow down but it won't if I use individual Trees..

driketts: Wouldn't easer to use Individual Trees instead of the paste method??

P.S. I must admit however, my finger gets tired..:)

No...

... individual trees on that would drive you nuts. Crikey, copy-pasting it is driving me nuts lol

Individual trees (however placed) will always give better fps than splines over the same area. Splines in general are resource hogs...
