Parts of the site not working

"The problem is the validation system itself. You shouldn't need one for your bought-and-paid-for product to function."
This is FOR SURE.
Out of curiosity, RRSignal, what did you do to avoid these problems?
Ken

I just run offline. My gaming machine isn't internet-capable by design. Most properly-written apps, once they detect that there's no network available, will simply move along. You can accomplish the same thing by unplugging your network cable, turning off your switch/modem/router, running IPCONFIG /RELEASE from Window's Start->Run menu (the preferred method), or a number of other ways.

Even web browsers aren't as ill-mannered as Trainz. Try running, say, Firefox without a network connection and it'll simply throw an error that the 'server cannot be found'. Most browsers even have an Offline mode so they won't throw continuous errors like Trainz does.

It is 9:08 AM in Auran's Australia headquarters. Come on guys, get the problem fixed.

Actually N3V is in the northern state of Queensland and that state is 1 hour (and as some used to say "1 hour plus 100 years") behind the rest of Eastern Australia, so it is now 08:24 Tuesday 10/2/2015 (or for those in the USA 2/10/2015) in sunny Queensland

After last nights validation issues, I restarted Trainz this morning to discover over 6,000 "Assets remaining to validate".

It's not a "contractual thing" and the third-party issue is a red herring. Even billion-dollar companies like EA and Sony have server issues, to say nothing of the many points-of-failure between you and the servers.

The problem is the validation system itself. You shouldn't need one for your bought-and-paid-for product to function.

I don't have these problems: Other than the minor annoyance of not having being able to access the DLS, I'd have never known there was an issue.

I've done enough network checks to know that it's third party related. The validation server is in the same location as the other N3V servers.

I was wondering why my CM in TS12 wasn't wanting to connect. Seems N3V better start the fix, or more people will complain to them.

The home page now loads so something was fixed. Does anyone want to try using TS12 online? I'm scared and don't want to face a 14 hour validation of assets.

That wasn't the concern, though. The point was that it doesn't matter whether N3V relies on a third-party or self-hosts - they still have reliability issues.

From a TS2010 user I don't understand. Can someone explain what is different with TS1012 and TANE CE? Are we saying trying to use either during an internet outage or while NV3 servers are down causes a validation process that can take hours? If so that's a deal breaker...

I know nothing about train simulators. I usually just lurk. However, I have a 12 year old enthusiast who owns a ton of content and ummm...I really have no idea how to use his simulator. I just kind of bought him the first simulator game when he turned 8 and said here ya go son....have at it. I've bought several more since then and I think right now he has Railroad Simulator powered by Trainz 12 or something like that. He has always figured everything out on his own until now and has purchased several "packs" of trains and today he purchased a:

Norfolk Southern Heritage Mega PackDigital DownloadNS Heritage Mega Pack

When he went to the content manager, it wasn't there and there was a big red bar at the bottom that said the content manager could not connect to Auran. Would the issue you are discussing here be the reason why it wouldn't connect and is this just something I have to wait out?

Thanks.

Dazed and confused.

Only a problem with TS12 SP1 NOT a problem with T:ANE CE which apart from having no DLS access has been fine all day.

Possibly, but to be fair this is the first time that I have experienced such difficulties but I can't speak for others. To say that this means that N3V have reliability issues is like saying that if a product (any product) suddenly has a "glitch", even if caused by outside factors, then it has reliability issues. No technology is 100% reliable so, on that basis, I would agree that all technology has reliability issues. The point really becomes one of what level of failure is acceptable and how much redundancy and failure avoidance are the customers prepared to pay for?

I agree, it was (and as the validation is still running on my system more than 2 hrs later, it is) annoying but I would wait until we receive a report (please N3V) on the exact cause of the problem and how it could possibly be avoided before I start complaining.

Hi All
We apologise for the outage. This was resolved by our admin as soon as he was able to this morning, and everything should now be back to normal.

We are using newer systems in T:ANE which should help prevent issues in Trainz when there are server outages, although of course actual online functions (DLS access/downloads; multiplayer, etc) may not be functional. However Trainz itself should work correctly.

Regards

The bigger issue is why when a server goes down should this make the game totally useless. It is now happening every two or three weeks now. Once the server is up and running it talks TS12 nearly a day to sort itself out, especially if you have purchased the add on routes from N3V.

The help desks response is basically "live with it".
