Oversized pictures in non-screenshot threads

Thanks guys! I have a list for mod recruits... I have some recomendations now.... Lemme just contact the forum admin, and I'll tell him.

WOW! This is so pathetic! I heard Verizon in the US has cheap DSL for only 19.95, and I bet some other providers in other countries have that kind of service too. I had Dial up ever since 1992, and I've had NO problems waiting. I've heard no complaints, and there are a lot of trolls on this forum, and I'm not afraid to say their names if need be. Ugh, this is just annoying...

BEST REGARDS, and stay safe for heavens sake!

I don't understand what the big deal is. I have DLS and the forums load just fine. Screenshot thread even with large pics loads fine and illegal signatures load fine as well.

With that said, I had dial-up internet from 1992 - 2006 which obviously ran a lot slower but I didn't complain about pictures loading slowly. Guess what I did? I waited for them to load. I recognized the limits of my system and used it accordingly. I don't have FCT either so I download content at 4Kb per second. Big deal.

The simplest solution is to upgrade to Broadband or DLS or wait.:hehe:

Hi Sethmcs,

The point being that not everyone in the world has spiffy superfast Internet service. For some people such as JohnK, the access is pretty slow and then they charge extra for useage after they've wasted the bandwidth on extra big pictures. The reason for the size restrictions is to help these people in the rest of the world enjoy forums just like us.

Nope ... I think they're concerned with illiteracy , i.e. people finding it difficult to read posting guidelines ... and threads apparently.

.
Generic labeling doesn't work.
Recently I posted a couple of pictures now in a deleted message. I'm actually not mad about the deletion but this generic label doesn't work in my case. I spent the better part of several months trying to make TC1&2 work to my satisfaction which is hard, add in trying to learn route building and I haven't done much in a long time that was fun with little frustration. I get TS09, get SP1 installed with little problems and for the first time in a long time I'm having fun. And in my moment of fun, I forget image size.
I refuse to stop having fun after getting it in a long time.
I have no issue with the subject of this topic. It is not a big deal to me, neither will I tell people to, "Deal with it." You want to stop oversized images, go for it.
But generic labeling is part of the madness I call the Penn Central Trainz Team that has been too prevalent in this community for a few years now.
I'm not joining that team.
Ever.
And from what I know of users posting on this subject, there's enough age an experience that it shouldn't have to be mentioned you know it is wrong too.
Good day to you, see you trackside.

This quote below shows that you really have the answer to the problems, Turn off signatures and get back to fast loading, sigs are a bit pointless anyway.

Also if you really want to get into it...if the user has a REALLY bad connection, believe it or not in the user CP they have options to turn off siggys,so you won't have to look at them, nor download them,as well as an option to disable IMG tags so that the images won't load, and you won't have to see them!

Go to User CP, look for 'Edit Options', page down and you will find what you can turn off. Makes all the arguments and angst in this thread totally unnecessary.

Narrowgauge, I think most of us know how to turn off sigs. That's NOT the point. Many people like yourself have links attached to those sig pics that direct others like myself to some pretty interesting sites. Without the sigs turned on, those links are missing. It's the same if you turn pictures off. Someone says "Here's a great pic...." but there's no link.

To the person who said "Get Broardband". Did you ever think that Broadband may not be available where people live? In Australia for example, broadband is only availble within 5 kilometers of an exchange. That leaves a lot of people wanting.

I just need to know why we have to wait for usesless photos to load. I mean what does a buffalo in a paddock or the national flag of Wales do to enhance my Trainz experience? Will someone please kindly tell me.

I have been to other forums(hosted by the same company as hosts Auran) And guess what? The forum AUTOMATICALLY re sizes the pictures. It's amazing how far technology has come huh? Now if auran could implement this(I don't know what is required to get it etc, weather its a software update etc) But if they got that,it would render this problem obsolete, don't you think?

That is what I was thinking, however with all the money Auran brings in,don't you think they could purchase the upgrade or whatever you want to call it?:hehe::o And I think in the long run it could save auran money by reducing bandwith etc and not relying on the people(like they do now) to do it for themselves.

. . . . Mind if I yell?
Well Auran wouldn't have to if users
follow the rules!

As I said at the start, can users be more considerate of other users when posting images.

I given up years ago expecting Auran to make forum improvements when the tools become available.

And if you expect every member here to follow the rules, you're also living in a dream world.

Very much agreed!

I never expected auran to upgrade the software, however you would think they could put it on the drawing board since they are starting to bring in more money now. It was simply a statement to say that it's not ALL the posters fault. The owner of the the forum could also start the ball rolling in the right direction.

EXACTLY. Times are changing. Speeds are changing. Configure yourself for the type of service you have, dont restrict those who would like to post at their maximum effectivness. Educate and train those whom cannot

The forum got upgraded the last time because it was constantly crashing and was vulnerable to outside attacks.

Will the Auran folks allow the forum to get that bad again - don't know! But sad to say, it wouldn't surprise me.

:'(

Lol .... I have 2X30inch monitors on my WS , so I should be allowed to post at my " maximum effectivness " . You need to get a grip on reality and think before posting .

Got a nice ingame browser in TS2009 ... go read " the future of screenshots " stickie in the screenshot forum .... no real loss if this place dissappeared.

:D :D

So you're saying that people who have high speed servers shouldn't give a damm about those who don't?

Isaccq,

No offense, but you were born in 1993 ?

Man, they learn computer skills young these days. Another reason why I'm pro-life :)

Whoa......... when did Al Gore invent the internet??

I'll just say what I said before:

It's not the dimensions of the screen shotz that's important, it's the size of the file.

If you browse through the Screen Shot Forum you will find that the file size of some of the 800x600 images are greater than the 1600x1200 images.

It's a matter of COMPRESSION of the jpg file.

My suggestion is to do away with specifying the dimensions and instead prohibit all files over 99KB.

Will someone close this thread please? It's giving me an headache.:'(

1st off if it gives you a headache don't read it plain and simple.

2nd if a thread is in violation of the Code of Conduct then you can report it as being so using the report button to the upper left of ANY post. Posting in the thread requesting it to be closed is NOT the way to do it.

back on topic:

I think in general the mods do a fairly good job of turning oversize pics into links. However my personal preference would be to have them remove the pics with a message saying so and why.
