Ouch! My baseboard disappeared

Hi

The weirdest thing just happened. I was happily working in Editor laying some track and a few roads when I noticed that the adjacent baseboard had disappeared. I don't mean I had accidentally deleted it because you couldn't see the usual black vertical walls of the adjoining boards - it was just as if someone had been round with a pair of scissors cutting across the terrain. Buildings were even hanging over the edge. I hadn't actually done any work on that board other than starting some terrain building so I can't give any more clues.

When I went into the map, the board was still there. It was just that I couldn't see it on the ground.

Fortunately I hadn't saved for a little while so I closed and then reloaded to find everything OK and all I had lost was about 15 minutes work.

Please, does anyone have any idea what I might have done wrong and how I might dig myself out of it if it happens again.

Thanks for any help.

You will probably find that while the ground surface has disappeared from view, the baseboard has not vanished. If it had scenery assets on it they would still be visible mysteriously "floating" on air. If this is the case then you in fact have not lost anything, not even the temporarily invisble ground surface. It will reappear.

This is something that has been reported, it happens on my system from time to time, and seems to be caused by video card issues. Remedies have been suggested such as updating your video card drivers, switching between DirectX and OpenGL, changing the screen resolution, etc. Different solutions have or have not worked on different systems.

Sometimes just saving, exiting and coming back in seems to solve the problem too. I think it has to do with display memory when there's a lot of textures and objects on the baseboard.

Many thanks, Peter and John, for your reassurances. I've only been in Trainz since February so this was my first experience of this problem.
