Hi, my name is Frank and I'm kinda new to the forums, but not trainz, I had 06 about 2 yrs ago, but currently just have 09 installed, and this map is using the 5mm grid, so pretty sure it will only work in TRS09? Anyway, I'm only half done with it and want some opinions on the textures I'm using and if you think it looks ok?

Go here to see fullscreen 1600x1200 resolutions and click on the 'full size' link in upper right.
http://community.webshots.com/album/569144029CfcljF

Map is 25 boards 5x5.

If you look closely, you can see the same objects in the forground, are also down at the bottom and one white tractor and biulding on top on the other side to check draw distance. which mine is set at 5000!

What do you think of the textures I'm using? Look ok?

Yes, thats the new high resolution gravel texture I used for the road! And it looks awsome!

The Dumper is drivable, and this shows what it looks like looking up!

My plan is to finish texturing it and doing the track work, scenery, etc.. and its going to be industry enabled with minerals and I guess gravel. Then I'll upload the module for anyone that wants to use it for thier Routes. Hope you like?

Thanks Anthony and Anthony! :)

Its the texturing thats the pain, I watched 2 movies while just doing the top part of the pit!

I'll add progress shots when I think something is worth showing!

Great work Frank. The textures look excellent and your use of the 5m grid is perfect.

Looking forward to see this on the DLS.

Congratulations,

Craig

The only thing i can say is your doing a exellent job with that project, I dont think i have ever seen anything like that on any forums screenshot pages.

Cant wait to get my 2009 it is in the post i hope.

Keep up the good work.

From a miner, all I can say is NICE.

Very nice! Your benching looks good. Good use of texture too. You might want add a few more blotches of darker and lighter rocky textures to simulate geologic structures, you can even do that in streaks, add a few lenses or large veins of materiel. But do what you think looks good, I think you've done a fantastic job and I have been in a few pits like that. I would say make your haulage roads about 3 times wider and those big trucks drive on the left side of the road (english style) and also is that apparment building I see i a few shots supposed to be there?

Thanks again for the comments guys!

Didn't get much work on the pit tonight, did other stuff, but have a 4 day weekend after Tuesday :). So should make some progress this weekend.

Ya Erik, I have some hard rock textures I was going to throw in after I finish the current textures. And I do plan on widening the road going in the pit, atleast for 2 Dumpers to pass each other! I've only been working on this for 4 days, but I did 2 days of research using Google images beforehand! Search extra large pictures and you can get some wonderfull pictures of "Open Mine Pits". I was going to try and model one from a picture, but just decided to freelance one instead :).

And no, that apartment building is just to test the draw distance, same with the Engines too, I won't have train track that close to the pit lol. And thanks for the tip that they drive on the left side, didn't know that, but will model it when I lay the invisable Dumper tracks.

That is great work...the mines if you call them that, out in Ca. have water filling them up a bit...they have huge dredges working in them. Sometimes two...

Thanks again for the comments! Well, I finally have all the new highres textures and they are good....very good!!! And I haven't seen anyone post new screenshots with them yet. I was thinking about redoing all the textures in the pit, but decided not too. But after you see these screens, you'll probly want me too lol. But I figured the pit is just a scenery object your mostly going to see from a distance. So going to leave it like I started. But after people get all these new textures, their is going to be some awsome screens and routes built by the talented route builders out their!

PS: I tried to clone one of the new textures and add my own highres texture in the same 1024x1024 tga file format, but in the game it came out white-ish? Anyone have any tips on making texture files for the game? Or where I can go to learn? thanks

5 pictures of what it could look like lol

Zoomed all the way in!

Doesn't quit look as good zoomed out, it the reason I'm not going to use the new textures in the pit!

Just showing 2 more of the new ones.

Well, back too more texturing....:)

Frank

:O

dear christ did you make that yourself or did you DEM it?

That's amazing work, keep it up! (btw did you use Trainz Tuner?)

Cheers,
Cameron:wave:

Very Nice module. I like it very much.
Welcome to Trainz BTW.
I think those new textures look great, much more detailed. But your texturing efforts are good as is.
Sean

Thanks guys! Cameron, no didn't DEM it, just looked at alot of pictures from google and freelanced it all, alot of work lol, took a day and a half just to dig the pit, bottom is -360 I think and I just kept going in cirlces digging deeper and deeper, and I mixed it up some too, some levels are -10, some -13, or -15 as I went, didn't want each level looking the same! No didn't use trainz tuner either, does it work with '09?

Thanks Sean, and I agree about the textures. I got the bottom part of the pit half done last night after I posted the above screens. More screens in a day or so when something is worth showing!

Just wanted to let you know project is coming along :)
And this is still a work in progress, alot of items you see are just temporary or will be gone in final verson. I'm trying to work with 2 mines, one for ore and one for limestone aggregate, but ran into a problem with one of the SC Multi Mines. It started to dump limestone and coal, but it was setup just for limestone! As you can't make it deliever 2 kinds of load anyway, oh well...work on it later.

PS: Best viewed by clicking for the full size 1600x1200 version!

1st screen, small town you go past coming from the west side of the module

This one if your coming from the east side of the module. Train is on the spur heading towards the mine.

From the east side again facing the mine.

From the west side again. Truck stop on the left behind the cop! The bridge you see is total custom with 11 splines, built for the highway above it. I think it came out pretty good. The enigine is going to enter the mine spur to the left past the bridge.

Now you can see the bridge detail, and the mine is right ahead.

Same train as above, but looking back at the bridge and truckstop.

Birds eye view of the lower part of the module facing east. As you can see its coming along, but still have alot of texturing to do and other stuff lol.

Really impressive work. It's obvious that the 5m grid helps a great deal. I can tell that it's taken a lot of time to build that pit, but it's time well spent.
Keep up the great work and looking forward to more.
