I keep telling myself not to do it but again I ignored my thoughts and decided to download the few updates for the assets in a map I have been working on for a long time. There was only about 8 assets involved but 2 of them were ground textures.
To my abdolute horror, when I opened the map the main ground colour had turned a horrible green instead of the mellow yellows blended carefully with other textures to give an overall Autumn appearance.
When somebody decided to update the build from 1.3 to 2.9 they decided to change the tga texture file to a green and brown instead of the dark yellow and brown in the original. The original kuid numbers were retained on the 2 kuids but the had become kuid2 versions and the names had changed. What they did was to make new textures using the original numbers which should have been given new kuid numbers instead.
kuid:68787:21664 called Gras34 has become kuid2:68787:21664:12 now called HP-Gras12
kuid:68787:21720 called Gras44 has become kuid2:68797:21720:14 now called HP-Gras14
I have spent hours trying to get my original appearance back. I tried opening the textures for edit to try to 'revert to original' but this option was not available, only 'revert'. I deleted the new versions in the hope that my old textures would come back but this has only been a part success. I altered the config file of the map to restore the original numbers but CMP shows the new kuid2 numbers as missing dependancies although the old textures returned. I now opened the map in surveyor and used 'delete missing assets but the map is still not correct since one of the textures now shows as the grid pattern (missing).
I am struggling on to try to recover fully my original map, but I am absolutely fed up with problems caused by downloading asset updates only to find that in many occasions these updates are themself faulty or that a different asset has been used with the original number when it should have been a different kuid.
Beware, it is often difficult to get back to where you were, even if you have CDP's and copies of your map with different names. It looks likely that I am going to loose 2 days work by having to use an older CDP and re-do the changes
