I have a very old version of Trainz - not even sure which. Anyway, I have rebuilt a PC as my old one was 32 bit and tried to re-install the proggy but it won't recognize the licence code. I have been on to support who say they only support versions 4 years or less and to try the forums to see if there is a way around the problem. Or will I be looking to dig into my pockets?? Why are the verification images so pants!!!!

Verification images are caused by being an unregistered user. If you can remember your old username, that will help a lot with other things as well.

What version of Trainz do you have, by the way, and what are the specs of your newly rebuilt PC? The product has come a long way since the olden days and the requirements are a lot higher as you can imagine. I don't want you wasting your money attempting to run it on an old machine that requires money spent to upgrade especially if you dig into your pocket lint!

Well you might be able to find out what edition of Trainz you have. Do you have it on CD/DVD, or is it a digital copy? what is the name of it? Does it say something like Trainz Simulator 2009, Trainz 12, Trainz Classics, etc...? You could also take a picture of the game menu and we might be able to see what version it is. Oh and to add what JCitron said, The requirements for running Trainz have gone up considerably. I won't go into detail as that is a topic for another day, but I have a Custom Built Gaming PC that can run some fancy games such as BeamNG.Drive, War Thunder, X-Plane Flight Simulator, etc... on high/ultra graphics.

But Trainz is a whole new ball game. It pushes even my PC to the limit at higher graphical levels. My PC can in theory run TRS19 on Medium-High graphics, but I run it on low for the sake of faster load times and a more stable FPS. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are still great in my honest opinion, but I must admit that PC gaming to a certain extent is getting more and more expensive now days just to keep up with the pace.

Thanks for the Replies

The version is on a CD ROM and has Trainz Virtual Railway as the title - it's probably Trainz 1!! So I have decided to download Trainz 2019 which is on special offer just now. My new machine is 64 bit with a quad core CPU and 8 Gb of RAM so it should run OK even with on-board graphics' So I will give it a whirl, I am sure it is much improved from my version which, to be honest, I only used occasionally and not to its full capabilities.

Wow what a classic find. Good luck running TRS19!:D

I got the NA regional edition of TRS19 and I use it occasionally along with TS12 and TANE. On board graphics might limit your enjoyment but I think it will depend on how you use the game. I don't run large routes/sessions with lots of scenery, traffic and AI involvement. I stick mostly to route development and content creation and the laptops with on board graphics I had over the last 14 years were adequate. I finally went back to a desktop machine with a decent graphics card and memory and the newer versions run a lot better on it from my experience.

Found my 1st copy of Trainz back in February 2002 on a vendor's table at a computer show. Half price or so - 12 USD IIRC. Haven't used it since UTC came out. I've had TRS04 installed on every computer I've owned since it came out. I even use it once in awhile. I wrote a few tools that only work with 04 and I still find them useful.
