Oh, my GOD......!!!

I can understand it, there was a show on History channel, I think it is Shockwave, they had an episode about an explosion in the MidWest where 2 tank cars that had derailed near a fire exploded, they explain how the explosion happened, it helps understand how tank cars work. One of the tankers not only blew up, the remains shot up and landed about a half mile away.

You have to vent the tank car before pumping off the load, thats all they did in the film clip and picture to show whats happens if you don't vent the tank car.

OMG!

I knew it! So thats what happens when you don't properly seal a tank...

Paul ;)

That's what will happen after you have emptied a vessel of hot liquid and then close it up tight. The vacuum created from cooling off will create a strong enough vacuum to implode the vessel which appears to have been what happened to the tank car in the picture.
I saw this happen on an oil field lease that I was working on to a heat exchanger, a vessel that heats oil up to get the water out of it. It was drained of oil and closed up. The next morning the vessel looked like the tank car in the picture. The heat exchanger is made of a lot heavier steel than the tank car too.
