Obo's Trainz Locomotive Catalog Reaches 2000 Entries

I agree Rob. If payware providers want publicity I'm sure they will come forward to offer some kind of sponsorship. The Trainz Resources Directory only promotes free stuff, but I'll always support anyone who supports me in other ways. JointedRail have been very co-operative in the past, especially with the 2010 Route Building Competition and I will be supporting them on my other projects.

So far, they're the only payware providers who have stepped forward to offer help. The rest are obviously quite happy to attract attention by other means. It's their choice - and yours!

Right, and just to be clear: I have nothing against payware and examples of it can be found on all my catalog web sites. The free stuff outnumbers it by far because there is more of it to begin with and it is cheaper.

Rob.

Almost let this one slip by...

Well, if you've reached 2000 locos you obviously have too much time on your hands anyway. ;)

I choose not to think about why I have had enough time to reach 2000 entries. Maybe I should watch more TV.

What I'd like to see, in addition to compatibility, is categories like original, reskin, and which ones have working cigarette lighters. :hehe:
(What, no Blues Brothers pic?)

Is there a way to tell the difference between an original and a reskin? Most Trainz downloads have very little documentation.

Regards,

Rob.

I don't see a point in trying to determine between an original and a reskin; both are new content, even if one is built upon another, for differentiation purposes. However, reskins usually do need dependencies. Of course, that could take a lot of homework to track those down.

Hi hert.

The "author ID" for each entry is just the name corresponding to the locomotive kuid. I stay away from a more elaborate credit system as it is too easy to get wrong and upset people. In the majority of cases the kuid is the only information I have anyway, so I'm just keeping it simple.

Regards,

Rob.

It's all good. I am just happy my creation is being enjoyed. The Locos I created and share are only usable in TS '09/10. robin_hoods repackaged them so that thay can be installed as far back as TRS2004. I wasn't able to do this because I couldn't get the old versions of trainz to run stable for me to test them. I wouldn't mind the credit, but in all, it really doesn't matter much to my humble self.

Rob, you don't have time to watch TV, I'm already cranking out Trainz reskins faster than you can keep up. :hehe: As for classification, I dunno - the whole thing seems kinda convoluted to me, try to find an RS 3 to skin and I'm skinning a reskin that's been reskinned 82 times already (reskin of a reskin of a reskin of a reskin of a etc.) and has lost some detail, takes some work to redraw all the doors and vents that are muddied up. "undec" is a good tipoff of the original, but I don't often see those.

Okay, if you insist.
