NYC subway Route

NYCTA Custom Station Kit

Hey All,

Just wanted to announce the release of my NYCTA Custom Station Kit to allow all of you to build your own subway stations! You don't have to use them exclusively for NYCTA, you can use them however you'd like.

Included in the kit are 30+ objects for you to mix and match and come up with literally ANY layout, ANY design, ANY color scheme you'd like.

This should save time and patience (and frustration) for those who have requested to clone/reskin my stations. Now you don't have to (or you can if you'd like).

The package includes:
Island & Side Platform splines (5m)
Trackside Wall & Platform Wall splines (3m)
Single Platform Beam splines (5m)
Double Platform Beam splines (5m)
Station roof splines (5m)--these are in 4m, 8m, 12m & 16m widths to span virtually any number of tracks. I only went up to 16m, so for anything wider, you'll just have to use more.
Track Pillar Spline (5m)
Track Pillar Spline (5m) with Roof (the roof only spans 8m, enough for one track on both sides. Again--for wider stations, I suggest using multiples of these splines to achieve the desired effect.

Also, I've included the subway station garbage can, bench and exit stairs, in case anybody needs them and hasn't already downloaded the .cdp. I figure it's easier to combine all of the items necessary to create your own station.

I hope you all really enjoy this kit and I would LOVE to see some screenshots of what your imagination can come up with! Content creation has become a labor of love for me, and it feels WONDERFUL giving back to the community.

EDIT: Link taken down to fix asset errors with the trackside walls. It will be republished shortly.

A Short Break

I'm taking a week or two off from NYCTA content/route building to focus on BART. Plus, I'm awaiting three books worth of single-line signal diagrams for the entire NYCTA subway system to arrive in the mail, so until then, I won't resume the project. I'm not at liberty to say who or where I found these books, but it's the culmination of a two year search and I couldn't be happier!

Also, I read a thread somewhere on the boards that answers the questions for those of you who have been asking about making my 2010 route available in 2009---the scripting and such of 2010 is that so you cannot back-date to 2009. I know they're similar, but most of the aspects of a basic 2010 route are only available for that version of the game. I've tried backdating several times for you guys, and I still get the same "error no map selected" message when trying to load it. So, when I get the signal diagrams, I may consider re-doing the entire layout in TS2009, so that you guys can enjoy it as well. Unfortunately, I do not feel like producing the full route for any version prior to 2009, so if you have TC 1 & 2, you won't be able to play the route. Like I've said prior, ALL of the content I'm creating is for 04 and above--just not the physical route itself. It was a sacrifice I had to make, and since 2006 is buggy and doesn't work on either of my machines, I'm going with 09 and above--I hope you all understand. But, if you have 04/06/TC, use my content and impress me with your creations! :D

Now, I'm going to eagerly await the mailman and maybe bust out some content! :hehe:

Good News!

I was able to backdate my 2010 routes to 2009 successfully with no errors--so you 2009 folks are in luck---my NYCTA Subway route will be available for that version! :D

New Sigs

Here is a picture of how the wall signals look when placed in-game. I'm finalizing the package right now--just a few more errors to fix and we're going to be set. This first cdp will be all of the wall, repeater, el, overhead, and normal signals. The rarer signals (2-2-1, 2-3-1, 9-head homes, etc) will be released in an add-on pack. I didn't want to make you all wait anymore to model them.

Two things before the picture:

1) You need to delete all of the previous signals prior to installing the new pack, otherwise you'll get two of each signal showing up in the trackside objects tab.

2) Those tunnels are not my creation, and they are not on available on the DLS nor are they close to being released. The developer kindly lent them to me for testing.

Signals are ready for download:

Please note you NEED to download the read me file and read the license agreement at the bottom prior to download.

Repeater signals have not been included in this set yet due to some unforeseen difficulties. They'll be included in the add-on pack that'll contain more home signals and combined ST/GT signals as well.

Major Development Changes/Announcements

Hello Gentlemen,

As you know, I have been hard at work the last few months with NYCTA content, as you have seen my subway stations and official signals package released, along with the continued development of the Brighton assets, EL stations, etc. It's been a very busy time for me! Anyway, after speaking with my fellow developer BStyles on this matter, I have a major announcement to make regarding the future development of my NYCTA route.

First and foremost, I have certain documents that will now help me create the entire NYCTA system very prototypically, right down to where the signals are placed. Doing this for the entire system is going to be a challenge, but one I welcome. Also, it will make the full system take longer to complete...

...which is why I am announcing that while I am working on the full system route, I will ALSO be developing singular routes for release just like BVE does. I am doing this because A) It will be a fun, new way to develop, and B) I think it's unfair to release all this content and have you wait on the full route. To be quite honest with everyone, I suspect a year or longer to get the whole system completed trackwise/signal-wise--that isn't counting time for scenery and the like.

So, beginning now, I will release one singular NYCTA route at a time until all the routes are finished, even if the full system is done. It'll be a cool little development race for me to see which one is finished first, the 24 lines, or the full system. Anyone wanna make some predictions? :p

Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan got a significant amount of love from my first route attempt, so to appease all my Bronxites out there--the first route I will release is the (5) route, from 241 St & Dyre down to Flatbush Av; 241/Wakefield is included because it's not THAT much of an extra effort to include one more station north of Nereid. Plus, this is the first route (and only one iirc) that will include three different yards in a single route: 239 St, E 180 St, and Unionport.

Unlike in BVE, you have a choice of which tracks to take, but they really won't take you anywhere if you're trying to go somewhere that isn't part of the said route. For example, at 149 St/Grand Concourse, the (5) takes a diverging route, going up and over the (2) tracks in a sharp curve to connect to the Lexington line. If you want to go straight along the Lenox line tracks--you'll eventually just meet a bumper. Same is true for the South Ferry Loops, the Clark St connections (Boro Hall), and the Rogers Junction to the New Lots line. Also at 125 St, the portals to the Pelham line will end in bumper blocks. However, I will have the two layups south of Brooklyn Bridge, and the City Hall loop included.

The future picture updates from me will be either from the (5) route or new content I plan on releasing.

I will be taking requests on what routes to do in the future, when the time comes, so please don't throw suggestions at me right now.

There will be some updates to my content that I'll release in a few days--mostly fixes/additions to the Custom Station Pack, and some updates to the Subway Stations package [better textures and more efficient 6T stations].

All the best,

Awesome Ace!

A very good idea! I was hoping to see some routes like such. If you need any help with session/traffic making let me know! And also, as far as the individual routes are concerned, for the El sections, will there be scenery added when the line is released or the whole route? Best of luck to you with these lines and I must say I admire your tenacity!
Eric :)

(5) Line

Scenery will be included on the EL sections for the individual routes. It will make it easier to copy/paste between two different routes when I get to a specific location on the full route layout.

(5) Line Updates:

I started the route this morning and have gotten from Dyre Av to Pelham Pkwy. The diagrams have really helped with signal and junction and station spacing (signalling isn't hard since the Dyre line has relatively few). Below are the screenshots and a new way to do the progress map. Rather than doing a full NYCTA map, I've decided to do a strip map. Every time a station is completed, a golden bubble will appear there until the full route is complete. It should also give some answers to exactly what I'll be building.

Woah! Nice Job with this route!

They all look real, and I would've said you'd stolen a photograph of that station if it weren't for the tell-tale dotted line (i thiink its for measuring accurate distances). In any case. Great shots as usual A. I must say I'm deeply impressed and inspired by your tenacious way of tackling this monumental task! Good luck and keep up the good work!
Eric :)
P.S. Thanks for responding I'm really excited to see how the finished product will look! You never cease to impress me....

Use Imageshack.

EDIT: Also, a quick video showing some of the scenery at Baychester Ave.

Imageshack isn't an excuse for Photobucket. Just a simple fix for this.

You can go into the options and change the allowed resolution for the images(I would suggest putting it on "anything under 1MB"). I've had my photobucket account for years and it's the main host of my images.

White Plains Line

Instead of going down to 149 St/GC like I originally intended, I decided to do the WPR instead, which is: a) easier trackwise, and b) allows me to do 239 St Yard, getting that giant monster out of the way. Below are some shots from E 180 to 241 St.

Now the next step is to lay signals and signs, and complete the two unfinished yards. Those updates will soon follow!

Enjoy!

acelejalde, How come you use different kinds of tracks on your route? Even the third rails are different. How did you create the yards and lay the tracks correctly? I don't see anything on the ground that help you lay tracks correctly.
