NSW Sydney Metro South

My hardware
Aspire F15 Intel Core i7-7500U 2.7GHz with turboboost to 3.5Ghz, 16Gb DDR4 memory and Nvidia GeForce 940MX with 2Gb dedicated VRAM

I think the video card is the issue. But if there was a way....I'd be interested in knowing.
With TANE and this hardware I am getting 30fps with draw distance at 3500m

That's not a bad machine!

You are correct, it's certainly your graphics card being just a little outdated. TANE works well because its low-spec requirements
If you had a computer with a NVIDIA GTX 980 or higher, you would have TRS19 working on Windows 10. On the other hand, if you were to reinstall Windows 7 on your computer 'default installation' TRS19 would work, since it's minimum requirements is only NVIDIA GT 430.

Thanks John. In my 70s I need a bug other than Covid or Influenza.
I'm on my way to sitting up all hours of the night. Just hope I can do this project justice.
I'll take all advice and help available
Cheers

This is a good bug to have. I started 20 years ago and haven't stopped yet. Trainz, even when working on prototypical routes, is much like working on a gigantic model railway. There's always something to fiddle with, poke at, and in the end enjoy the routes that you and others have created.

Tracksupervisor has decided to turn his attention more to outdoors activities.
He is a longterm lawn bowler and spends hours providing service to his club.
Close to 80, he wants to also spend more time with his wife who has health issues.

I will keep him informed of the progress I make with this project.

I never heard of that. Good Luck to him.

My Sydney Metro route is a real scale DEM based WIP.

To date I've included all of the main lines in the metro area from Central & the City Circle to Hornsby (Main North & North Shore) in the north, Sutherland (Illawarra Line), Menangle (Main South), and Penrith to the west. Also includes freight lines to Port Botany and the SSFL. Rail, stations, signals and junctions are all based on DRKD diagrams. I'm including catenary in a separate layer so it can be turned on/off as desired in sessions.

The route currently has around 12 Interlocking towers to control the various paths through the complex junctions in the network. Probably the most complex is at Sefton where the IT controls 8 paths through the junctions. Central station has 2 IT's looking after access to the country & suburban platforms. Portals at the end points generate and consume consists.

I'm currently adding more scenery but just enough to view from the driver cab, close to the track, mainly near stations, and to get the feeling of a city route. I've no intention of recreating the real world in this route as its mainly intended to be for running and scheduling.

To that end I've started to test the route with driver schedules based on the various Sydney line timetables (T1, T5, T3, T9 etc etc) and running as many consists as my PC will manage.

One day this route may be suitable for upload and distribution once I'm happy with the look and performance.
Stay tuned.

Hello,
What version of trainz is this developed for? Could you make the route easy to merge with other routes?

This route has been under construction for near on 10 years as I've added the various sections - currently based on TANE SP4.

The original section from Central forming the Main South corridor once included my other Main South routes from Picton to Albury with the various southern NSW routes merged into a mega route. I decided to cut the route just before Picton so I could expand and build the Metro area..

I think trying to merge too many routes will require a super computer to run it, but, it is possible. So better to build and run as separate routes to keep it simple and easier to set up sessions and de-bug them. Sydney Metro will also merge with one of the Blue Mountains routes at Penrith and with some modifications the Illawarra themed routes.
I will keep plugging away at the Metro route for now.

I use i-Portals for this because my routes were getting bigger and bigger making the loading times longer and the AI were having issues traveling over the large routes.

With i-Portals the routes are separate and run standalone as any separate route is. The routes are connected together via the i-Portals that are placed and named just like any portal is. Their settings, however, are configured in the session.

They can be configured so that remote routes can be connected between users, or configured for local operation. For remote operation, the other user needs to have the same trains in order to exit the portal. The i-Portals can also be configured for local operation which is how I use them.

There's a bit of configuring that needs to be done, but the virtues are great. Consists keep their commodities, locomotives. and wagons, however they are assigned a new driver. You can either have the trains automatically spit out, or exit manually. In both configurations, you'll need to assign the driver commands for the trains to continue on. For me, this isn't a big deal since I can only run one route at a time anyway. There are a couple of annoyances with them, at least to me anyway When one route is favored over the other, the trains tend to stack up in the i-Portals, and the trains are released LIFO (Last In, First Out) instead of randomly.

I'm just in the process of fine tuning and de-bugging my Driver schedules which now cover most of the Sydney metro lines.

The route now has 24 Interlocking Towers looking after various routing options through stations and the large multi line junctions such as at Granville, Sefton, Lidcombe, Hornsby and Glenfield. The larger IT's have at least 8 routes defined.

I'm using the Schedule library to code the various routes and station stops which now has 60+ schedules to define the various Up & Down routes throughout the Metro area. Ive broken the routes up into sections so that Schedules can be tested and then mixed and matched to suit.

The route has portals at the North, Illawarra, South & West ends which either generate or consume consists. Others are at Leppington, Cronulla, Bankstown (Richmond line) and Eastern Suburbs. Ive used the Central Portal Control to operate 3 portals (sofar) - the other portals run independently. Consists are generated at a mix of 5, 6 & 7 minute intervals.

I have generally not installed catenary and, where it is installed, is in a separate Layer so can be turned off & on if desired.

The main Driver Session takes a good hour to get going after which there are 50+ consists on the route.

The route is not fully covered with scenery and what is present bears little resemblance to the real world. Scenery is only present to give the feeling of a built-up city scape with not much away from the tracks but it is passable from the Driver cab view. Content manager reports the route at 240Mb.

I am surprised that the route & driver sessions have not maxed out my PC or broken some internal parts of Trainz as the session runs with quite good frame rates.

I have a few more areas to complete before I consider if I will put the route on the DLS.

Watch this space......

Are you using boat's ABS controller and the other one for the points? Boat's tutorials can be found here https://www.boatztrainz.co.uk/ on how to install and use the controllers.. I used the ABS controller for the Alamein line to prevent the trams driving through mainline traffic :ROFLMAO:

I am curious about the schedule library, you have setup mate. I don't think I have seen any routes with the schedule library setup at all??

Hi PhilCorousch01

Just gonna jump in here. I didn't know much about the Schedule Library either until I saw this route and session by tomtre

Southlines 2014 B,<kuid2:4801:100182:1> - route
Southlines in the Morning 8D,<kuid:4801:100015> - session

He uses schedules for just about every train. They were created for TS12 .
I got some inspiration from him.
Worth a look.

Ah!! Thanks for the heads up mate (y)

The Schedule Library is a very useful function and allows the testing, debugging and sharing of common parts of a train schedule between many consists. The trick is (I Think) to break up a train schedule into sections between major destinations so they can be more easily managed. Once tested and proved its a simple matter of copying the schedule into the Driver.

As for the ASB from Boat, I started using this initially and it worked as advertised. Once I became comfortable and familiar with the set up and definitions in the Extended Interlocking Tower I gradually implemented EIT's throughout the route. One of the key findings is where in a schedule to place the ITSetPath instruction and where to use the ITPath Trigger.

I've had a go at running the route & session in TRS2022 and apart from some minor asset errors and unknown items it seems to run as designed.
I've saved the route & session as a CDP in TANE then loaded it into '22'
I will post any results and issues.
