Actually there are talks of UP merging with NS to create the first transcontinental railroad. UP CEO Jim Vena would continue to be CEO after the merger and NS would cease to exist. Not sure how this would affect UP's steam program but it is almost guaranteed that 611, etc. will never be allowed to pull excursions on the future UP's ex-NS lines ever again. Not sure about ferry moves of 611 between Roanoke and the Buckingham Branch at Waynesboro. It is currently pulling excursions between Goshen and Staunton this month, it ran the same route in Oct 2023 and didn't run at all after that until this year, it was returned to the museum in Roanoke but was ferried by NS to Waynesboro last month.
