NS Pittsburgh Sub (Large Pics)

*Top Screenie in previous post*

OK - I accept that in the foreground you can see a couple of billboard 'edges', but you simply cannot get that background effect with STs.

Love the shot, that's exactly how Trainz should look...

Cheers everyone

Yeah, thats why i was a bit hesitant in putting this route in later versions of Trainz... I will definitly have a mess about thou and see what looks best, but at the moment its JVC and Tundra's awesomeness all the way :) But for my next route- (Probably The Tennessee Pass) i will be using the newest versions of the game:D
Thanks again Dermmy

Jeez, can't wait to see this up on Trainz PA

The route is most likely either to be released in a future version of trainz or at Jointedrail as they will be providing me with all the custom content and support...

That's very nice ever, Scratchy.

Also, I wish JR made NS SD40E for your route make look good fit on your route...;)

matruck is right, the only thing I hate about the SD40E's are that they killed Conrail SD50's.:'(
(What can I say, I'm a Conrail fanboy, deal with it)

Thanks Seth,
Your not wrong mate, there is countless hours of work that go into building prototypical routes and it does take having a crack at one before you can fully understand that. The track laying was fairly straight forward all that was needed was a rough idea of the grades and bingmaps and I was done in a few weeks:) The realism lyes with the scenery, if i can find good quality content that fits the area, I can usually make a fairly good go of it, but yeah it does get a bit tricky when ur creating an entire town that is on the slope of a hill...
Hopefully if i rly get stuck in it wont take too much more time to get this route finished (talking in years) i probably would have lost interest if it wasnt for the expectations of u guys and all the support!
As for ur last sentence, route building on trainz is what I've been doing since i was 8.. i love the creativity it gives you and the fact that you can do anything:D I dont think i've been on any of the builtin routes on the game more than once!

So true. So true.

My Frisco Highline route is only about 80 miles long and it is still a huge project even though most of it is single track. Sometimes I think I'm too anal about getting everything as close to the prototype as possible. In the end though I feel satisfied if I get everything the best I feel it can be.

I haven't been on a built in route in over two years...

Back to business...

FINALLY got the PC back, only to find a whole load of other problems, but managed to figure everything out with the help of a few guys on the forums and a bit of logical thinking, but definitely not without some massive frustration! :
So I'm officially back to working on the route after over a month of nothing which for me is great news.
Hope you all enjoy the screenies, this is a local heading up from Johnstown...

Wonderful work. You come close to achieving photo-realistic looks, which is amazing considering the software you have to work with. My stuff so far still has more of a cartoony feel to it!

I believe that the Fishlipsatwork DEM goes from Antis (East of Altoona) to Packsaddle Narrows (West of Johnstown).

A DEM from Johnstown to Pittsburgh would be absolutely monsterous, @ 3-4 times larger than the Fishlipsatwork DEM.

I have often thought that making a cut down route, from Phila to Pittsburgh would be possible on flat baseboards, modeling only the important railfanning sites along the route (a condenced route).

Is this route actually going to include Pittsburgh?

Cascade's right. For this route I'll be going from Altoona to Johnstown, a distance of 40 miles i think? I would need an eternity to get the distance to Pittsburgh done. Maybe in a future project, it would definitely be a good place to model...:) The thing with doing a city like that is the amount of detail that goes into it, i always tend to do routes between of the cities.

I'm now in scenic mode so if anyone knows the route well and sees something that could be replicated better in Trainz then just let me know and ill swap it out.

Thanks for the feedback again guys, it means a lot:cool:

Thanks, Rich

Wonderfull ... Those screenshots of the upper grade seperation are very realistic ... although the terrain at the bridge is a vertical rocky shale cut.

Anyhoo ... the grade separation to the right, the top tracks go to the original PRR mainline, Portage bore (constructed prior to 1850). This higher elevated mainline once turned at the tunnel exit at Tunnelhill, and went to the Muleshoe Curve via Hollidaysburg, (as the Horseshoe was not even constructed yet until 1854).
