NS Pittsburgh Sub (Large Pics)

Altoona had no air retarders in their several hump yards, instead teams of car riders rode each draft of coal hoppers down the humps, hand braking the 1000's of coal hoppers weighed at the Juniata Scales (white building), a 24 hour operation. They all took turns and walked back, and did it all over again, till their shift ended. They employed poling cars on adjacent tracks, to push drafts of stalled cars in the yards.

Altoona was always a dismal, dirty, delapidated, coal soot, and smoke filled town, with gray unpainted or whtewashed houses. Since the demise of the PRR they have lost hundereds of thousands of inhabitants, and I belive the City now has only 47,176 people (2006 cencus-I will check on that number for accuracy).

thanks scratchy, i was hopeing you say that, i keep looking at the ts12 form, don't look to good to me to get it yet, keep the good work up, cascaderailroad has good info on everything, have a good day:wave:

Right.

Been messing around and wanted to ask all your opinions; should i model in Winter instead? Its pretty easy to replace everything in '09. So yeah which option do you all think looks best?
1. (Stick with Summer)

2. (Late Spring) Should look a lot better when i stick in some more trees:)

Cheers guys

If you do winter please make it a light dusting of snow mottled texture vs the blinding all pure white textures some use (or we'll have to wear snowblind slit sunglass's, or change the time of day to twilight).:hehe:

The summer folliage looks great.

Personally, I prefer Fall Folliage.

Why not do 3 separate versions Winter, Summer, Fall (Spring is kinda hard to do)

Your route is looking great man! Keep at it! You have a pic on page 4 & 7 of a bridge...the sides/approaches are concrete "shapes". Where did you get that bridge? I'm getting ready to start modeling the Ft Wayne line in Ohio and these bridges are everywhere!

Scratchy,

This route screams EPIC WIN! I cannot wait till this is done! Being at several of the spots youve posted shots of in reality i can say your doing a great job!

Keep it up and if you need a tester let me know.

Was thinking about fall as well, but i can't find any billboard trees that have the variety or detail of Tundra's, by popular vote i'll stick with summer and do the separate versions after I finish the summer one.:)

Do you think AR Tower is going to be demolished, or What ?

NS-534-Helpers-AR.jpg

I keep wanting to send you my version of the "Horseshoe" but it is not completly ready.

I have 2 versions: one the Fishlipsatwork DEM which will be for low end PC's ...and the 10,000+ baseboard route from Huntingdon to Johnstown, to NantyGlo and Philipsburg.

IM Me ...

Scratchy - thanks for the link to those bridges! And my vote is for the summer version. Another quick question for you... Do you know the meaning/difference between the PLS01-05 signals? I know what the heads signal themselves, but I'm guessing the 01-05 part has a meaning for where you'd place them. I'm used to using the Safetran series from JR, where you pretty much live in the 04-06 range for signal uses. Thanks for the help and inspiration!

Thanks, just getting around to south fork actually. Interesting how the branch that peels of goes through the old dam. Could only imagine how much water was unleashed down that valley when it bust...
Would love some pictures of the coal(?) loader/unloading plant near Cassandra if you have any.:)
Can you send me your cdp and let me know the progress on your module.
Josh
Ok, hows yours going? we can do a trade

Sorry but I have literally have no idea! For some of them, showing clear is when the top is still at danger and the bottom has the vertical line:confused: . Which is weird and confusing especially as it takes a mile and a half for your train to stop.
What would be ideal is a new set of weathered, old signals that show red and instead of just the yellow.
