Now we're did you guys park the band wagon? I want to join it, since I have no desire to blow 700 dollars on a fancy camera here are my iPhone pictures of the curve

I have often wondered that ! The Horseshoe was a popular PRR trackside park, as was Packsaddle Narrows west of Johnstown. There were many horseshoe curves, and muleshoe curves, no telling why 100,000 visitors travel there every year.

Altoona was a busy hub, and a conjuntion point of gridlock, making for spectacular train frquentology viewing for railfans.

The Horseshoe was 1.75% grade, making for high horsepower multiple unit loco consists, and many helper loco's, also used for rear end braking.

In short: Lots of smoke, rings of fire on railcar wheels at night, sparks from cast iron brake shoes, a very loud spectacular place for railfanning.

Sweet route Scratchy! Can't wait!

Anyway, question about the route:

On JR, it says "Control Trains from MG or ALTO Towers." Could you explain that, please?

Thx!

Something thats a work in progress....all we can comment on right now. We ( as a team) have alot of work to do on this route yet and a trip or two to the area to get it all figured out.

AR is remote controlled, and the tower is out of service, and ready to be torn down, MG is remote controlled, and the future of Alto tower looks like demolishion in the near future, as it is barely structuraly sound ... Soon, all will be controled from Pittsburgh East and Harrisburg dispatch. Relocation of Alto tower to the Museum grounds, looks like much the same fate as the attempted MO tower relocation to Sankertown/Cresson park, it began to collapse, and had to be bulldozed to the ground.
