NS Pittsburgh Sub (Large Pics)

Scratchy,

Awesome shots! You've outdone yourself with this route! You truly capture the western Pennsylvanian feel of the sub!

Where did you get the mac and is it free?

MAC is from Jointed Rail; it has not been released yet. When it is released, it will probably be payware.

In Portage there is a jug handle (a 90 degree U shaped track) from the mainline, for various coal tipples, Bens Creek branch, and others.

You may have to explain the term "jug handle" to those unfamiliar with the concept. I've been all over the US, (except Florida), and have never seen them outside of the middle East coast.

I've only ever seen pictures of trains on the junction with the main at the other end of the Jug Handle. There is only one tipple being served now, after the line that once peeled of and went though the town to another has been torn up.
Portage is looking pretty nice now after I've spent most of the day working on it and the surrounding area, adding buildings and textures aswell as sorting out some track issues (turns out theres a passing loop just passed that crossing that i had overlooked) so look for some arial shots soon :)

As for the route as a whole there is still a lot of work needed to be done, at the moment I'm just chipping away at different areas to see what my computer can withstand.. I supect I'll have to upgrade before this route is completed.

As this post is being written, NS are busy taking down the remaining signal bridges from the PPR era and replacing them with new safetran gantries as well as completely remodelling the track layout around Altoona and slope, ruining my hopes for doing a modern, up-to-date route! :hehe:

As much as I hate the evil empire that Microsoft is, try using Bing maps. Use their bird's eye view and rotate through all 4 views. They have MUCH better resolution photographs!

Yeah, i know, there fantastic. I havn't been on google earth since i started the route apart from that link, i just found the street view camera from the crossing and the link so everyone knows where the area is :) Donno if you can share links for locations in Bingmaps, ill have a look

hi scratchy, sorry for posting so late, i told you that i was going down to the curve and get some pic, it turn out running here and cold and my wife said that it would not be good for our 1 year old, sorry, maybe next time i can get some for you,

I am amazed how accurate the route is, from you being so far away ... You have many fans here and plenty of people willing to help you in any way ... just ask about any location with requests !

Thanks Cascade!
Only places i cant find pics or videos for are the slag dumps in Johnstown and maybe some of the more remote areas north of Johnstown, other then that I think im pretty much set, but and help and feedback is always welcome :)
