NS Penn Central heritage unit 1073

hm, well it might be worth noting that none of the NS promo shots of the heritage series have been shown with the correct colors. something they do to the images shifts the colors quite a bit. comparing with the underframe, which is certainly black, id say its black as a normal NS unit.

LOL - I will reserve judgement till I see the unit in a lash-up, cause photos do funny things and that shot looks too light all over (there is absolutely no definition in the ballast). The shot has been de-saturated and/or had the contrast wound way back, but looking at the photo again I notice the hand-rail shadows along the hood-side. The shadows are black....

Having seen the Real McCoys running back in the day (not the heritage unit), I can assure you that PC's units are really black(ish), depending on how crappy a paint job they got to begin with.

there's something about the utter simplicity of it that really suits the blunt functional design of those big SDs.....Andy :)

Well, I'll give you that. It does look squat and tough and substantial. It reminds me of an "ACME" anvil!

Supposedly it's brunswick green... But I'll believe it when I see it, that's a tough color to tell in any photo.

ive seen this mentioned elsewhere and also seen it causing quite an uproar. it doesnt look green at all to me. you can tell brunswick when its against black, and its certain the underframe is black.

all of the NS promo shots have been modified this way. it actually became quite annoying when creating them in model form because of this. every single NS released shot has had altered color.

How bout this all. Ill confirm it on Tuesday for all of you whether its the right color or not. I'll be 2 feet from the unit then lol

I saw the unit up close, very close a few days ago. Indeed, there is just a few drops of green in there. When in the shade from the right distance, there's a clear difference between it and the black NS unit it was behind. NS did an amazing job on these...

Cheers,
Woody
