No need to sound so harsh, I'm only 14, and I have Autistic Tendencies. I can be dumb at times. :confused:

Tell me how harsh I was AFTER your Mother has an incurable disease, lives with horrible pain daily, and a very short time to live...

If I had known ahead of time that you are only 14, and are (appearently) unfamiliar with The Fight Against Cancer, I would have told you to have your parents contact NS on your behalf, or advised to atleast speak with your parents about your idea first, so that THEY could guide you in a direction that might do some good.

You should be apologizing to all the Cancer Survivors, and hoping that you have not caused more harm than good.

AND stop using "Autistic Tendancies" as an excuse. I don't tell people, because it is 1. None of their business, and 2. does not define who I am, but I AM Autistic, with Aspergers. I was much more hyperactive when I was younger, but I have learned to live with my disorders, not live through them. Make an effort, not excuses.
 
It isn't an excuse, it's actually true. It's BiPolar type 2, and it's shown a few times in other posts...I haven't figured out how to deal with it just yet, but I think I'm learning.

I did talk to my parents about it before sending the email, they didn't really give me much advise before sending the email but I did send what they told me to send.

I also understand where you've been, my Aunt had lung cancer and died this month 2 years ago. I'm not unfamiliar with The Fight Against Cancer.

And I do apologize to all the cancer survivors, I respect them, and I wish the best of luck to those fighting cancer.

I wouldn't have given NS the idea just for the hell of it is all I have to say now.

Putting the past behind us, we do need to clearify...though this might be a "new idea" to you, I'm pretty certain that "Norfolk Southern", at some point in time, has already considered, or has been approached with, the idea of painting a Locomotive to highlight the plight and struggles of having Cancer.

I've tried to get this across to you several ways, but I guess I was not direct enough in my explainations...don't focus on this "idea" you had, but rather focus on actually supporting the Fight Against Cancer, and develop a plan that looks and sounds appetizing to the NS Corporation.

There has to be a "Purpose" behind painting the Loco, it is a huge undertaking...they will NEVER paint a loco just to bring attention to themselves for painting an Engine pink...
--There HAS to be a reason "WHY"...a Fund Raiser, or the sponsorship of an Organization that does fund raising or Cancer Research...perhaps in cooperation with a Medical University, or a Teaching Hospital.

You'll need to also pay attention to things like (for example) "Breast Cancer awareness Month"...which is in October. It takes time to organise a plan, and set it in motion, and then to paint a train too...make sure the Plan you pitch is even feasable

I love the idea, my Great Grandmother survived Dual Breast Cancer and died from Throat Cancer.

And posibly just make it a SOLID cancer locomotive? Pink loco with all the ribbons somewhere on the long hood? Like our pink fire truck?

That's what I was going with anyway, I put a link to a different post earlier showing what I was thinking of. I had made the reskin last week, and I gave the guy I email the picture as well.

I hate to sound like the bad guy here, but if you are going to be emailing concept images to NS, please make a drawing or use your own work. It isn't that your idea is bad, but I don't want to be, nor have JR implicated in this in any way. Thanks.
 
I like the idea, but as Justin said, you should draw up your own concept. The pink/red tint really throws off a lot of the original work that was done (couplers, MU hoses, etc).
 
You need to sell them on the idea. Just tossing a coat of pink over a entire locomotive, and saying (I summarize) "You should do a Cancer unit" isn't going to make them want to do it. Tell them why they should do one, the more you can relate the need to them the better. And if you really want to show them an example, really take the time to think about it. This is one I did, however like Justin said you need to use your own images. Don't use JR content or even Trainz. Take a look at what the guy who did the heritage units did.

A couple notes, AMTRAKwanabe, while yours is definitely a better design then nascarfan100's. However most companies don't like people messing with their logos. There are specific rules that have to be followed when using a logo. For a personal reskin in TRS what you did is fine, but I wouldn't show that to NS.

All the advice given to me was pretty good but I can't do it, again, I'm only 14. I've done what I could and my parents aren't gonna help me with this.

I don't think I'm the right one for this job. If anyone else could take over I'd like that. I don't think I'm the right one for this job.

Just for public knowledge:

I have been in touch with Robin Chapman. I explained Nascarfan100's previous emails, and clearified just what was trying to be achieved.

The responce I received conveyed appreciation of the explaination and clearification, and was very informative and helpful in preparing an formal proposal.

In the near future, I will be creating a new thread in the appropriate "Prototype" section of these forums to gauge the Community Interest in supporting, and possibly helping to prepare a formal proposal for submission to Norfolk Southern, for the purpose of bringing awareness to various forms of Cancer, it's prevention, and it's treatment.
 
Good job, will look forward to checking that new thread out at a later time. Would be interesting to see something such as this come out of this community. Just make sure in the formal proposal you are detailed on what you are trying to portray and why the need is out there for such a thing, and possibly how NS would stand to benefit from it in the long run if they did one ( community events, media ops,etc. etc.) FEC did something similar recently with the pink/blue unit they now have ( i think theres 2 even?) so its the idea has been done, but theres always different takes to it ( look at Amtraks Veterans loco as opposed to NS's...).

Cant ya tell I've dealt with them before....:cool:
